Liking this trade, been a fan of Wellman since he signed with Minnesota. Saw a little of him last year when he was with the team. Should be a good fit on the Whale, and will be a nice fill in should there be injury (he could get the fill in now with Rupp's potential broken finger).

I really liked EC when we first brought him on. Seemed quiet, reserved, kind of awkward. I rooted for him. I eventually grew tired of his inconsistent play, and the comments about Avery rubbed me the wrong way.
All in all, I was pretty indifferent towards him. Thought he was a weird dude, but I harbor no ill will. I wish him luck.
Awesome. I'm assuming Wellman is also not good, so I doubt he will be a spare forward in NY right as in he should probably stay in Hartford?

Me too. One of the rare examples of addition by subtraction players that the Rangers had. Just not a good fit. Still, I don't get the hate on him. Avery situation included. I was pretty upset with him at that point, but came to realize that he was just different.
The other thing, this thread is 6 pages long.
Amazing. Gotta give it to passionate Rangers fans. Imagine if something substantial goes down.
I wish crusher all the best. I always liked the guy. He got us some valuable points via the shoot out. He scored a big goal against washington in the playoffs last year. He didn't have a spot on this team though. I don't argue with the trade and hope we can use the extra space to solidify our team going forward.
The 6-foot, 173-pound Wellman, 24, has been assigned to Connecticut (AHL). Wellman has two goals and five assists in 14 games for the Wild this season and four goals and nine assists in 41 games over three seasons for Minnesota. He also has 14 goals and 12 assists in 26 games for Houston (AHL).
Erik Christensen hopefully does okay, but it's really up to him. Since I don't see the kind of effort and heart that I like to see, it only follows that I don't really give a crap what he does.
He's gone, and that is just fine. The whole thought of having some guy who shows up unpredictably and is OK because he does not cost a ton, and is a SO specialist, makes me barf.
I am not neutral about EC, I am happy that he has been traded.
I think it's a good trade for both teams. I mean, Wellman has the potential to become a great player. He just didn't fit in the Wild organization. Hope he has a nice career with the Rangers.
As for Christensen, it's a brand new change for him. He has a pretty good shot and obviously, he's an upgrade for the shootout for sure. I'm looking forward to see what he can do with the Wild. He has the NHL experience which most of the Wild forwards haven't right now. Not to mention, the Pittsburgh connection with Fletcher and Yeo.
Not sure if you're interested but here's his last interview as a member of the NYR/CT Whale organization.
