Lack of shutouts - Goalie/defense experts?

I mean, looking at our goalie tandem vs, say St Louis, should there really be a 9 SO difference?
Our goalies, on paper, are at least as good as Halak/Elliott in my opinion.
So where does our team falter?
I'm far from a goalie or defense expert, I'm way better when it comes to analyzing offense and PP, so if anyone really could break it down, I'd appreciate it.

We've seen a shutout once this season, none last season, and a guess is that every other team has at least 4-5 during that span.

Combo of :
Elliot and Halak playing out of their mind
Bryz and Bob not playing as well
Defense somewhat depleted
Defense not playing super tight

and of course flukey goals

It is a combination of reasons. Goalies aren't always the primary reason behind shutouts. It's a team effort. But Ws are far more important. The sense of not having a killer instinct at home should be included in the discussion. And, as a piece of trivia, the biggest shutout, in terms of saves, in Flyers' history, isn't by Bernie Parent, or Pelle Lindbergh or Ron Hextall or even JVB. It is by a Darren Jensen in his rookie season, 48 saves.

Agreed, a shutout cannot happen with the keeper playing well be himself.

For a shutout you need multiple things to happen

Strong goaltender
Defense boxing teams out of the slot
Limited shots on net
and most importantly you need a good load of luck.

The flyers this year have not concentrated long enough to gain shutouts. They have had dreadfull luck all season ( i mean look at the freakish deflections), and the defense has been hollow at times this season

I agree with this ! Shutouts are great, but a win is a win no matter if its a shutout or not. There are many variables that go into a shutout, including plain old luck. Our defense participates a lot in our offensive attack, and many times you see Mez, Kimmo, Coby, etc way up in the offensive zone, which can at times lead to 2 on 1, 3 0n 1 rushes etc going the other way toward our goal....We may go months without a shutout, then we may get 2 or three in 5 games.....Its just the way it is,and i do not worry about that stat at all..Both our goalies are playing pretty good at the moment, and they both are working their a$$es off in my opinion. I like our club a lot going forward towards the play-offs.

What has it been, 1 shutout in the last 2 seasons? Before Bryz this year it was Leighton IIRC

Lol I was confused. No worries. But stopgap is a pretty appropriate term.

They don't shut teams out because the Flyers don't play a brand of hockey conducive to low scoring games...and that includes the other team.

Now in all fairness he has at least 1 SO in the KHL and was sub .500 in wins. Goes to show you can be a losing goalie and get shutouts, but wins are more important in the long run.

-Hitchcock's systems vs. Laviolette's system (if we're using the Blues as the main comparison)
-bad bounces
-defensive lapses by defensemen, and forward
-shoddy goaltending
