Disagree. Stoll = salary dump and the Kings don't have a 2nd or 3rd, so...
Only thing I think the Kings need other than a sniping winger is defensive-minded defensive depth. A veteran who can come in and reduce Willie & Scuds minutes or replace them in the case of injury. Someone with some toughness. A Steve Staios-type. He won't play a lot, but is nice to have around. Not something Drewiske or Martinez have an abundance of.
Stoll is not a salary dump no matter how much you dislike him...
Given LA's struggles and the fact that it looks like Detroit is very active on the market this year, who can you see being on the block from LA?
I could see Detroit wanting Stoll actually, they could use a natural centerman so that Abdelkader can be moved back to his wing
Whats the availability of Clifford? The wings also want to add a gritty player
The Kings are struggling, but are still in a playoff spot and SHOULD make it. They aren't going to trade a player, IMO, that is regularly in the roster without a player coming back that fills a need. You'll never get a guy like Clifford unless someone of equal or greater value is coming back to the Kings.
Geez, Toronto fans are like locusts in trade rumor threads -_- They just systematically tear everyone who isn't a Leaf down until there is nothing left.
I do have to say that I am surprised that you are just noticing this.

Well, it's nothing new, more like re-noticed it. It's been nice not having Schenn for a few months. I remember last year, in a few of the numerous Schenn proposals where they said they would not trade Kulemin for Schenn straight up. It just goes on and on...

I'm one of Stoll's biggest supporters on this site... if they're trading him, it's to make room for Lokti and get a more expensive player for this season. other than that frankly I wouldn't trade him. if he's in a package to CLB, he's a dump... if he's sent to DET which was the hypothetical I was refering to, it would be pick & prospect to help with a draft where the Kings have nothing in the 1st 100 players after the 1st round.
It doesn't matter that he floats, doesn't play physical, isn't clutch, and isn't a winger which we need, and doesn't make those around him better. He scored over 30 goals for an offensive-minded team several years in a row, that's all that matters. Plus his cap-hit is a steal, and he will be ours for 10 years!!
/sarcasm
You and me both are scratchin our heads on this brother.
Seems like every trade deadline there is some player out there that people get boners about and don't look at practicality. Everything you said is right.
I mean I was on the fence leaning no, but when I heard 4 hits in 30 games I went to **** no.
And to squash down any "He's a goal scorer! not a hitter!" reply. I don't care, like I said before the Sedins are close to 20 hits each, Semin is close to 30. And those guys have reputations as being SOFT. The Sedins get away with it because they are 90-100 point players on a team full of brutes like Kesler, Burrows, Ballard, Bieksa, etc etc. If you're not hitting, you're not bringing intensity, your not getting involved. Carter is 6'4 and you're telling me he has 4 hits? Sounds like he is really imposing his body to get pucks......
The last thing this team needs is a floating, soft, player. Wether it's because he is dealing with injuries, unhappy, or what have you, that's not what we need. I think even I have 4 hits this season.
Depends on what you have available, I can't see them taking a prospect or pick for Stoll, it would have to be something they can use, a 3rd/4th liner with speed for Stoll and a pick...
The wings have quite a few bottom 6 forward types at their disposal as well as some prospects who are NHL ready.
Cory Emmerton is a rookie, you could maybe see him and a 4th round pick for Stoll?
Drew Miller for Stoll straight up?
They just have a bunch of wingers and no real natural centers for the bottom 6
The guys that make sense for us, don't for the Wings. I.E. Helm, Abdelkader.
I do like Emmerton though....problem is, don't know enough about him, does he beat out a Cliche, Nolan, etc anyone from Manchester in that role....if he does, package whoever that is with Stoll and make the deal.
yea I doubt the oldest team in hockey trades one of their youthful assets. Doesn't make a lick of sense for them, neither does trading Helm, or Abdelkader, or Kindl, or Tartar, or Nyquist, or Andersson, or Mursak, or Smith. Unless they are getting youth in return.
Wow actually Detroit has some pretty good youth in the system..gotta say...
Ya know a guy who could really flourish in Detroit? Loktionov.
For a player who is not known to be clutch, Carter sure has an awful lot of game winning goals (38). He also has 12 shorthanded goals in his career.
I remember how much crap Pavel Datsyuk was getting for being a non-playoff performer. In his first four playoff seasons, Datsyuk scored 15 points in 42 games. In his fifth playoff appearance, Datsyuk scored 16 in 18, and in his sixth year, he won a Cup, scoring 23 in 22 games.
Now Carter is no Datsyuk, but he's a damn good example of a player who was unfairly criticized until he won a Cup.
Why would Columbus move Nash or carter at the deadline? They would get more at the draft. Deadline deals are usually for UFA-to-be players and a few players with short term deals. Long term deal players are moved around the draft.

Well.. draft picks and prospects are at a premium at the draft, players are at a premium at the deadline. That's one way of looking at it, maybe they think they can get more for him now in that regard.

I would think teams would be a little more desperate at the deadline than they would during the offseason. Teams going for the cup or trying to make the playoffs give up more than they should.
