Dion Phaneuf's Slow Transformation

http://www.fiveminutesforfighting.co...formation.html

Its a good article that summarizes how Phaneuf was a purely offensive player in Calgary and how he is transitioning into a good 2 way player in Toronto. It uses stats to back it up too. I am very happy with Phaneuf's play this year, he's been great.

I think he is rounding out nicely. That has to be one of the most lopsided trades of the decade.

*sits and waits for HotPaws to rip Dion and Burke apart*

I noticed that he doesn't get caught chasing around after the puck or a big hit, taking himself out of position, this season. He's still scored some crushing hits, but a lot less, and he picks his moments now.

hes still developing his overall game and mentality but glad to see he isnt wandering as much trying to make hero plays anymore. he made some bad decisions earlier in the season leading to crippling goals.

his physical tools and offensive instincts have always been elite and as he ages and garners experience and momentum he will leave no one doubting his status as a #1 dman in the NHL.

Why would i rip Burke and Dion ?

It was a good deal for us but i don't need to exaggerate it to make me feel better . I liked White when he was here and i still like him as a non Leaf .

* sits and waits while Kessly Snipes tells me that Dion is far and away the best D in the league and White should be in the minors *

Besides, teams adjust to rookie D men who can rack up the points..Phaneuf is a good 2 way player now and I'd take this Phaneuf over the rookie Phaneuf any day

I still see people writing that Phaneuf constantly goes for the big hit and takes himself out of the play.

His amount anger is inversely proportional to his amount of hair

There must be an egghead somewhere that can come up with a formula to calculate it.

Edit: This was suppose to be a quote from Hero's hilarious post with all the Phaneuf face pics. Can't seem to quote it.

I agree, he isnt letting guys walk around him anymore either. I particulary remember Wayne Simmonds just simply walking around him and scoring last year, he doesnt let that happen anymore. His positioning and just overall smartness is at first glance just decent. But when you think about it (and look at stats) he's the best guy defensively on the team and the best offensively. I laugh when people say Phaneuf isnt a #1 defender. I look forward to see how he plays in the playoffs.

probably because a lot of Leaf fans have no clue what one looks like and expect Lidstrom or bust. I couldnt be happier to have such an amazing talent and great leader just fall into our laps for a few journeyman and Matt Sweettooth Stajan.
