This is pretty bad, even for Eklund

Well, 4 teams as "front runners" should get a lot more hits to Eklund's website.

Why would the Canucks pay 7.8 million a year for Nash to 3rd-wheel with the Sedins when Alex Burrows does a perfectly good job of that at a quarter of the price?

So glad Gillis is our GM now and I don't have to worry about him trading for that contract. If Nonis or Burke were still around I'd be a bit uneasy right now.

lol, the Hawks would probably be the last team on my list who would be trading for Nash right now.

LA looks like the best fit to me, whether they're interested is something else. Lots of young guys in Kings system starting to risk stagnation. CBJ could help with that and start fresh. Big contract but if they took some dead weight back its a reasonable risk.

Nash could be dynamic with Kopitar.

Nash is a big no-no for Vancouver with his contract.

Nash's contract is like the River Styx of the salary cap.

Well if we got Nash id have mixed feelings. I guess it depends on how much we give up.

Hes just not what we need really. Hes a great player but we have our 2 first line wingers already. Unless we get him for a steal its not worth giving up serious assets (which im assuming they would want) when we need to get a center first.

Actually the Hawks could afford to carry Nash for several years without major issue

It would be when Kane/Toews contracts are up Hawks could be in trouble

But if Frolik's salary were to go to Columbus the hawks for next season would be fine and probably a few after actually with Bolland/Hammer contracts expiring as well

Hawks next year if acquiring Nash

Nash-Toews-Kane
Stalberg-Sharp-Hossa
Kruger-Bolland-Shaw
?-?-Hayes
?

Keith-Seabrook
Leddy-Hjalmarsson
Olsen-Montador
?

Crawford
Salak

That would leave Hawks 3.6M if cap doesn't rise (It should rise with TV deal kicking in)

Now with that said I dont want Nash nor his contract

Show me a CHI - CBJ trade that involves Nash, but none of Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Toews, Keith, or Seabrook (and probably some others, realistically...) that improves both teams and does not put the Hawks back in cap hell like last season, or hurt our already frail defense and goaltending, and then I would possibly consider from CHI's side.

Well, if you get a replacement franchise player back, it's not too bad.

Of course, there probably isn't anyone in the world willing to offer that. But, hey, it's a thought.

I would characterize that as being "impossible".

Why on earth would the Blackhawks want Nash? They aren't exactly short on offensive firepower at the forward positions.

Nash is a franchise player by default. Not another team in the NHL would consider him a franchise player.

You would think but your GM doesn't exactly inspire confidence

+ Dumping Nash's longterm cap hit would be something Jackets would probably desire

Well he would be best LW since Secord so that would be great. Hawks always seem to have a big hole at LW since

That's debatable. It's hard to say how he'd perform with some decent players around him.

I would love to see the Hawks get Nash, because it means they can't add what they really need.

Leafs will have to pass on Nash.

As tempting as it is to acquire a perennial all-star, Olympic gold-medalist, and franchise player, Nash's price tag and contract goes beyond what the Leafs can accept.

If Nash wants to play for TO, he can sign with us in 2018 for a more reasonable contract. Until then, he stays put in Columbus.

Hawks could add Nash and several pieces at deadline if they wanted with ease actually

I would have absolutely no issue if the Leafs traded for Nash. That contract isn't as scary as people make it out to be, and he's good enough that in a new environment he would be worth it. If not, its worth a gamble that the new collective bargaining agreement will have more options to deal with bad contracts, or even a salary roll back similar to the last deal. That kid would come alive in Toronto.

If Toronto has enough to be the winning bid for Nash, I don't know. They probably want a goalie, and we have two that are playing pretty damn well right now. We also have a couple guys in the minors who could be close to being ready soon, meaning we could offer one of Reimer or Gustavson. They'd probably want a replacement on the wing, so one of Kulemin or MacArthur would fit the bill nicely. Because Nash is an elite allstar player who has many good years ahead of him, you'd need to sweeten the deal with a defenceman like Schenn or Franson. Throw in a top prospect or two like Kadri/Biggs/Percy/Colborne along with whatever draft picks, and the Leafs could make a good package that they could afford to give up.

Gustavson
Kulemin
Schenn
Kadri
Percy
1st round pick

Is this a good enough package? I think its a pretty big price to pay, but probably a fair deal worthy of a talent like Nash. I also think the Leafs could reasonably afford to pay it, more than LA, Chicago, or Vancouver could.
