I noticed that one too - though I thought it was the other way around - "Penguins earned a hard earned victory over Pittsburgh" - gave me the impression they played the Bruins game in a dirigible.

This is becoming my favorite thread. I like Steve. He's not horrible, but my god these are just hilarious. I noticed the Pittsburgh beating the Penguins thing, or whatever he said. I just chuckled and shook my head.

Oh dat Cangilolsi. Always good for a laugh.

I definitely hear the "Clawkson" every once in awhile. It's just his New Yawk accent.

He says it a lot, but "sharp angle try" is actually a nice way to put it that rolls off the tongue.

Cangi's signature is completely sucking at his job. I was hoping he'd get better but has in fact got worse as the year has gone on. I realize Doc set a high standard, but Steve is now setting the low end of the spectrum. In the future whoever does the hiring of the new PBP guy will say "You don't have to be as good as Doc, you just have to be better than Cangialosi.".

Yep.

True, but he uses it even when it isn't appropriate, kind of like Doc sometimes uses "scramble in front" as a filler. I swear I've seen Devils taking shots from dead centre in the slot and Steve still says it's a "sharp angle try".

Booo-urns!!

I see nothing wrong with Cangy whatsoever. I'd rather have him than at least 90% of the other so-called PbP guys out there not named Doc(or Gary Thorne).

I hate how he doesn't say player names sometimes, instead he'll just say the entire team name. It sucks when I'm trying to find out what D-man made a nice block, or pass, and all I get is -

"Shat blocked away by New Jersey!"

The thing I like about Cangy is that he calls guys by his nick names, like Kovy and Moose. Makes it easier and faster to say their names and sounds cool too.

A couple years ago in a game vs Dallas, he was calling Matt Niskanen "Neesh-kah-nen" the whole game. Anyone remember that?

Are you suggesting that "Moose Hedberg" is faster to say than just Hedberg?

When the Devils played the Senators, he was switching back and forth between calling Foligno "Foleen-yo" and calling him "Foleeno" like everyone else does it. I thought that was odd, I guess he was trying to use the authentic Italian pronunciation, but doing it inconsistently.

I guess I was watching their feed because I don`t remember this. Seriously, his name is Italian and he can`t pronounce Foligno and Vitale?

At least he can`t screw up DiPietro`s name. lol

That`s just mind boggling.

That's fine. I disagree. I'd take a good majority of the other PBP guys out there right now. Ones that can occasionally pronounce a players name correctly, know who has the puck, and know what is going on more so than does Chico. You know when Chico knows more about what's going on at the time, you're pretty bad.

Would you rather have Matt Loughlin calling the games? I don't have any problem with Steve at all. He's trying to keep the Doc-esque format in place, seems to genuinely like being a part of the Devils broadcast team and gets along fabulously with everyone.

I think much like Larsson, he has a good foundation and will only get better as he grows more familiar with the team and calling the games.

Plus I think he'd see a thread like this and laugh more than anything.

Matt? Hell no. I was talking about NHL PBP guys. I'm not saying Steve isn't a great guy. I just don't like him as a PBP broadcaster. I don't like his voice, I don't like how clueless he can be, I don't like how he doesn't know how to pronounce names, I don't like that he often stumbles over words, I don't like his goal calls; I just don't like him as a PBP. That's it. I don't hold any ill will against him personally, and I'm not saying he can't improve somewhat, I just would have rather had someone else become the PBP man and Cangi stay in his old role which I thought he was well suited for.
