Something like:

Picks/Prospects/Mitchell

for Gil/ Moen

Murray/Picks/Prospects

for Top 6 forward?

Otherwise, I just don't get the rumors. Would something like that even work cap wise or contract wise?

Marleau-JT-Pavs
Top 6-Couture-Clowe
McGinn-Zues-Havlat
Vandy/McCarthy/Whoever-Desi-Winchester

Vlasic-Boyle
Demers-Burns
White-Braun
Vandy-Gil
That top 6 could be Nielsen - though he isn't a top 6, more like a tweener. Yes, it could work cap-wise.

I'm dumb and forgot to include Moen. I guess that looks alright and leaves 8 NHL defensemen and enough players that can keep someone ahead of them in check. Can move players between 1/2 line, 2/3 line, and 3/4 line.

Split, what you are saying is in fact the only what that trading for Moen and/or Gill makes any sense. But I doubt we trade with Montreal at all.

As Pollack reported this morning, Todd talks with DW every day about players that the Sharks might go after, and he says he then goes home to see rumors about certain players to the Sharks that supposedly have legit sources that he and DW have never even mentioned. I get the feeling that those sentiments are aimed directly at the Moen rumors.

Lets just trade for Shane Doan, if Phoenix moves he doesn't want to go back to Canada, and SJ isn't too far off..

Demers getting some love on the main boards reassessing the 2008. A few have him going in the first round at about 26. Not bad for a 7th rounder

Don't trade Demers

Pollack article on who we could be seeking (or type of player): a top 6 scorer:

http://www.mercurynews.com/sharks/ci_19907428

Edmonton media must be next to Garrioch. RJ Umberger?

So am I the only one who kinda wants Les to go into Sharks broadcasting? I personally think it'd be amazing to have him rip guys like Handguns live on the air and talking advanced stats. It'd beat Kurz's "man sugar free candy. good call murray and burns lost some teeth last night" insider reporting.

Of course he would have to go "man **** that pylon handguns. whenever he's out there he gets outshot and lit up like a crimma tree. cant believe he got all that chedda from DW" instead of how he usually talks.

+1 on the stats discussion. We get it, you took econometrics 101 or something similar. Sample sizes in hockey are never big enough anyway.

it'd be great, but anyone know how much it would take. Anything that involves our 1st sounds like a bit much

I don't know how we'd fit him under the cap next season.

And that has to be taken into consideration. Unless we dump salary, it'd end up being a rental, which DW promised won't trade futures for. But again, it's DW.

So basically our 1st, a d prospect (Demers, Petrecki or Doherty) and our 3rd in 2013?

I'd offer our 2nd, one of those D prospect, one of goalie prospects (Sateri, Sexsmith or Stalock) and our 3rd in 2013.

That's not to say I'd want Umberger, I have no idea how we'd fit him in our cap next season

His 4.6 mill cap hit kicks in next year i think

Mitchell, Niittymaki won't be back. So that should clear up space.

Yeah, take out the 3rd - in the Penner deal, the Kings 3rd was conditional.

I like Umberger but I think he'd be hard to acquire without giving up a high pick or top prospect, plus his cap hit is a bit high for a guy who'd likely play on the third line on this team. I suppose if the Sharks get rid of Mitchell and Niittymaki it could work cap wise, but still, DW would need to include a 1st and a good prospect (Doherty, Petrecki, Braun) at the very least.

I really am not a fan of Umberger's contract. I know that Vandy, White, Winchester, Mitchell, and Niitty all come off the books, but we need to allow for Cooch adn Burns' raises as well.

I trust DW to manage the cap well. I'm more worried about overpaying asset-wise.

As somebody who has taken several upper div stats classes, and is graduating in less than two months to find a job in the most statistically involved field short of being a statistician, I concur with the above. This thread has been interesting to read without those parts, however.

Based on the quality of most of your posts, I'm guessing I've played hockey since before you were born. But what happened to putting me on "ignore"?

So you'd prefer people debating points based on their subjective and error-riddled memories rather than facts?
Shot quality itself is a subjective thing. Shot distance, who is shooting, etc. all these things are only part of the equation.

And keep in mind, that everything is subjective. Everything. Every statistic can only be accepted to the degree with which the reader accepts the statistics's premise and the way it is presented.

You believe that high corsi = a good player. What is good? How do you judge what is good? If you use corsi to judge who is a good player, then your argument becomes circular.

Most of the Wild fans are frustrated with Seto and his production. It's a pipe dream, but I'd love to trade for him to be back on the team this year.
