Refresh My Memory, if you would please...

When the Kings selected JARED AULIN off a short list of Avalanche players, who were the other players they could have chosen?

I know Jordan Krestanovich was one, but who were the others...

Serge Soin was another name considered

Pretty much anyone but Nedorost

I believe that Radim Vrbata was another name and the next-best after Aulin.

EDIT: Hearing these names again makes it feel like 2001 all over again. In hindsight, Vrbata would've been a better pick, but he still isn't an impact player, so it's probably not that big of a deal. Aulin turned out decently enough. At least he fetched Carter (who knows, maybe Cammalleri would've gone in that deal if Aulin hadn't).

There was this defenseman that the Kings could have taken, he had been taken in that years draft by the Avs and was playing his sophomore year at Michigan St. He has had a pretty nice start to his NHL career and will represent the USA at the Olympics, some kid from Indiana with a French sounding name, some guy named John-Michael Liles.

But we really can't fault the Kings for taking Aulin, he was the consensus pick for the "future considerations" from the day the trade went down.

25 points from a 5-10 D-man isn't exactly inspiring. There are guys like that every year who don't even sniff the NHL.

The concensus top three on the list were:

Jared Aulin
Radim Vrbata
Vaclav Nedorost

But the list was anyone who hadn't played in the NHL yet. This list isn't all the guys they could chose from (because they may have acquired more kids or signed some UFA's who hadn't played in the NHL yet). And all the guys on this list weren't available to them (because several had already played in the NHL. But it's a starting point.

Just be happy it wasn't Bootland, Tubby, you'd have loved him!

Like I said before JT, Nedorost was the only one who was off limits.

Yeah, and the Kings could have drafted Ray Borque & Joe Sakic, but didn't. Get over it. It'll be ok, I promise.

that was actually the reason for my memory refresher, and now that it is refreshed, we can safely say "no" --- Svatos was the following year.
