What's the deal on Smithson? Not a good player?

He brings one skill that isn't really lacking to begin with and has a habit of being in the box when he could use it.

Role player......specialty has been at the FO circle and PK. He's been surpassed by the younger guys (Spaling on the PK part who has better offensive abilities / Smith at the FO circle). He leads the team in minor penalties I believe too.

Very offensively challanged for even a 4th line center. He may be up to 2 points on the year.

He's seen better days.

Gotcha. If it helps, the Canucks haven't really got the benefit of penalty calls in the last few games (0 against Chicago, 1 against Detroit, a couple against Colorado). That could work in your guys' favour.

I expect the boys to come fired up tonight with something to prove. I'm sure they still have a bad taste in their mouth from dropping all the home games in last years playoff series.

Smith has one good game at the dot. Overall, he's got a long way to go. Smithson, then Spaling, and a surprising Erat winning over 50% of his 67 draws are the leaders.

He is a role player ... nothing more, nothing less. Our best at the dot, usually good on the PK but committing too many penalties this season, hands of stone in the offensive zone. And he's up to 5 points on the year.

I liked Spaling (before he got hurt) a lot in the series against Vancouver. Him and Halischuk both had some spring in their step.

What do you guys think...will Smitty take a penalty tonight or not? Predictions welcome! I predict he'll take at least one obstructive-type penalty...interference, holding, hooking. Fo sho.

Both are doing well and improved a bit since then. I think Hali potted a dozen so far playing 4th line minutes.

Canucks have cut down on the embellishment this season and play a pretty honest game.

Tootoo is quite good at diving.

Hah, fair enough. Still, I'd rather have 1 guy doing it than a full team.

I'm going to meet an award-winning author on campus tonight, so I'll probably miss the first period and part of the second. I don't think I'll regret it with Smithson in the lineup.

No offense but I could've found a MUCH better instance of Tootoo diving. Weak effort.

McGrattan is a better player than Smithson in certain ways and he's likely coming out.

No single player on the Canucks dives more than Tootoo though.

I have a hard team believing that McGrattan is better than anyone ever at playing hockey...has he suddenly developed some hitherto unexpected skills other than swinging his fists?

My god shut up with all the diving bs talk. Both teams are equally guilty of it in the past
