OK cut the shenanigans. I know CLB has been holding out for Ballard so let's just cut right to it. Ballard for Nash straight up.

Seriously though. Is there any specific role that CLB is looking for in a defenceman. Puck-moving? Puck-rushing? Shutdown? Offensive? LS? RS?

I got served.

There's a thousand different ways to carve up statistics. I love all 3 players and would be ecstatic to have any of them on my team.

Sharp has been a better player than Nash for a couple of years now, especially when you consider his defensive play and penalty killing. Nash is still mostly living off a Peter Bondra-esque Richard trophy tied win before the lockout and some international tournaments that have nothing to do with the NHL.

Nash: 17 goals

MacArthur: 17 goals (in 6 fewer games)

Grabovski: 18 goals

Lupul: 21 goals

Kessel: 29 goals

Yep. Lots of ways to carve up those stats.

Step one: Move Ballard, Raymond and Schneider (minimum salary requirements, even if it's not in a trade directly) for Sanford and Nash for this year.

Step two: Next year: ???
I have no idea, magic?

Step three: PROFIT!

That's the real issue IMO. A deep contending team (like all the teams mentioned) is very unlikely to be able to fit in Nash's $7.8M cap hit on a go forward basis without moving core pieces going back. And as a Hawks fan, I don't think that I'd move any of the Hawks "big 4" forwards for Nash. The Nucks are in a little different position of being able to include Ballard to offset more than half the salary, but I'd expect that they would want those $'s to upgrade the blueline and not invest in a winger, when that's not really a need (at least from my perspective).

Possible. What we need is a premiere shutdown guy (the phrase I've been fond of is "someone who can casually skate up to the Datsyuks and Kanes of the division and tell 'em "nope, sorry, no goals for you today"."), and Schenn could be that eventually. He's also a RHD, though, and ideally we'd want a LHD shutdown guy to pair with Wisniewski. The Crazy Ideal examples (which I've mentioned before in several other threads on the subject ) would be Jay Bouwmeester, Ryan Suter, and/or Marc Staal.

Schenn's arguably a better fit than JMFJ, but JMFJ is vastly more proven. Tough call, really.

I hope he goes to LA/Vancouver

LA with Sanford for Bernier, Hickey, Penner and 1st

Vancouver for Schneider, Schroeder/Raymond, Sulzer/Alberts and 1st

But Toronto will offer Schenn, MacArthur, Biggs/D'Amico/Percy, Franson and Aulie

Can take the Hawks out of this rumor

TimSassone: #Blackhawks aren't trading for Nash, Suter, Weber, Thomas. Think Ruutu, Gill, Sutton, Kubina. Sorry to disappoint everyone..

Only those four teams, eh? I mean, what, that's only 4/16 total current playoff teams. Maybe Nash needs motivation right now? He's usually solid at world events. Sometimes it works.

Interested in Nash to the Leafs although his price tag would be substantial regardless of his contract. On a solid line he's good for 40/40. Picking up assists when you're essentially solo is a difficult task.

If I had to venture a guess, four pieces: Kadri + Colborne + Blacker + 1st. Not having an elite youngster would require an extra piece to the deal.

From the Blue Jackets point of view:

Kadri - Johansen - Yakupov
XXXXX - Colborne - XXXXXXX

Even if he were available I would wait until the new CBA is complete.

You do realize Nash with the Sedins would have all three over 100 points and Nash challenging for the Richard every year, right?

Bottom line is if on of these teams did make a play for Nash, they would be giving a significant amount of salary up as well. Chicago learned their lesson, I doubt they would take that contract on unless they are very comfortable with their prospects.

If either team gets Nash, I expect at least these players to go back.

Vancouver - Schneider, Ballard, Hodgson. Every other player has a NTC. No chance they waive.
Chicago - Hjalmarsson, Bolland? Seabrook?
Toronto - Schenn, MacArthur, Grabovski

None seem very realistic at all and I am not saying this is good value, but if Vancouver got him, he would be the most lethal player in the league.

Pass since Wings will need more than 1 player to fill their cap for the next 6 years.

No way in hell Vancouver picks up Nash. His contract and cap hit are atrocious and would severely hinder the team, despite how much potential he could have in Vans lineup. LA, on the other hand, I could see picking him up, especially since mason seems done. Maybe something around Bernier?

too little salary moving back to CBJ and Gillis wouldn't trade two blue chippers in one trade.

Right, I wasn't saying that is all they would do. More salary would move and more would come back from CBJ. If that trade happened it would be the most complicated ever. But if you want Rick Nash, you are giving up Schneider and Hodgson is possible. Don't think you should, but CBJ has no reason to trade him and this would be a case of cup or bust for VAN.

Basically I don't believe Van is in on this. It's a bad trade for both teams.
