That draft was a comedy of errors at the time, and has only gotten worse as the years have passed.

Good read. Thanks for posting.

Hamill and Cross still have a shot. If Hamill keeps improving like he did from last year to this year, and Cross can stay clear of injuries, they both could become regulars at some point.

I'm very interested to see how Cross looks in Providence next season.

If he develops into a decent NHL player he could become a nice partner for McQuaid when Ference moves on.

Cross might not be too bad, but damn, what a ****** draft.

I've heard stories of whom someone (maybe Jeff Gorton) really wanted to pick in round one over Hamill, and seriously, be thankful they didn't.

Since then, 5 of our top 6 forwards were drafted by the team. Who cares about 2007?

I'm trying to figure out how this could have been; I'm guessing one of Eller, Esposito, or Pacioretty. Honestly, without knowing that they are now tainted by Montreal; I would have been okay with Eller or Pacioretty. Esposito on the other hand...

I remember this draft though; I didn't know at the time how they could not pick Brandon Sutter. Big kid, NHL bloodlines, just seemed like a natural fit. I still wish they went that way.

Oh well, woulda shoulda coulda!! We needed a down year after a killer 2006 draft!!

In all seriousness they drafted the wrong local defenseman that year. Should have drafted Shattenkirk.

It does suck that we went with Hamill over Couture but that's what the draft is. A crap shoot on kids and nothing more. We missed and it happens.

I wanted Sutter over Hamill.

I also wanted Sweatt or Repik over Cross so I'm not perfect... However, i did want Getzlaf over Stuart, DelZotto over Colborne and Oshie over Lashoff, so maybe I do know a little something ... NOT.

Ha, no ****. Seems like it's been forever since they drafted him.

Shatty would've been nice, but don't discount Cross - he's got a nice skillset for the Bruins blue line.

I think Cross could still pan out. Hamill is easily a bust. I don't even think that's debatable at this point.

This is where I was as well, although it's likely made even more potent by hindsight. I love Sutter though and did at the time as well. Still remember when he absolutely wrecked Cherepanov in the Superseries... a thing of beauty. You want to talk about your prototypical Bruin. Gillies was another favorite of mine, but I take comfort in knowing I would have taken Sutter first

That said, there were more then a few guys that would have worked better at that pick. Couture, Sutter, Shattenkirk, Blum, Perron, Smith.. it was actually a decent draft that yielded quite a few solid young players in the first round.

Alas, we don't appear to have come out on top of that one. Still, the book isn't closed until all the prospects are out the door. If Chia can turn a 5th round pick into a solid NHL Dman through trade, then you never know what he could do with a guy like Hamill.

The 2007 draft looks a lot like the 1996 draft where the Bruins struck out with the #8 pick of Johnathan Aitken and have only the re-acquired Trent Whitfield left from their picks.

Of course there were very few gems in the draft including our captain Zdeno Chara at #56.

Hamill is just not strong enough right now for the NHL game, he has all the other abilities to be a capable third line guy on many teams, but he cant win battles physically with other players, he just gets thrown around. His body just seems like its not maturing, still seems like a kid not a man. (Whether this is fair or not) it makes me question his work ethic in the weight room and dedication to staying in shape.

I'm not blaming the Ranger, just saying that every action has a reaction and changing things may lead to a different outcome.
