I think its the other way around he takes care of AK,and wingers well one is AK that plays 25 games out of 82.The other is Moen that doesnt have much talent and Darche the same thing...So it doesnt help that most of the time he plays with guys that dont have the same type of skills as he does. He`s also ahead these guys most of the time cause they cant keep up. So give him someone like Patches on the wing and you`ll see his production get lots better. Also i`ve noticed that in the last 25 or 30 games he`s done an amazing job of covering up for other players mistakes. We went into OT because of Pleks mistake.......
Don't kid yourself... AK is the one helping Eller. The 4 goals game by Eller was all AK.
Both players have great chemistry but I think right now AK helps more Eller than Eller helps AK.
Eller has made big strides this season, mostly defensively but also a bit offensively. I think he still needs to work on the mental side of the game as I feel that he often gets frustrated when bounces don't go his way. Over time, he will learn how use that energy in a constructive way instead of letting turn into frustration.
He is on pace to be a great 3C, somewhat like D.Bolland, but I think he still has some potential to turn into a 2C. A poor man's J.Staal is the way I see it
very interested to see what kind of player becomes in the next 3-4 seasons.
Sedins put up 20ES pts in their rookie year (Eller 17)
23/27 ES pts in their 2nd season (Eller on pace for 32)
19/23 Es pts in their 3rd season
only getting to the 30pt ES threshold in their 4th full NHL season...
and this with a Canucks team that was one of the better offensive teams in that span (12th, 1st, 2nd in g/g in their first 3 seasons).
now I am absolutely "cherry-picking" stats to tell a story right now...
but the point I'm making is that, with basically zero PP time, Eller is contributing offensively at a very positive pace for a sophomore player.
Watching him play, you can see that he has good hands, good offensive vision, a good release on his shot (though his accuracy & shot selection still leaves a lot of room for improvement), and positive chemistry with other offensively capable players.
I don't doubt that right now, were he to be getting 2-3min/game of PP time, he'd realistically be on pace for 10-15 more pts this year (maybe a bit less considering how awful our PP has been, though maybe it wounldnt be as bad if we gave the talented kid a shot to help it out)....
if that were the case, I doubt people would be so skeptical about his ability to be a solid top-6 offensive contributor as he continues to develop.
I'm not trying to argue that Eller will be a hart trophy winner or lead the league in scoring one day (though never say never ), but I am making a case that his offensive ceiling is much higher than seems to be the estimation around here.
I fully believe he has ~70pt potential, and if his defensive game continues to improve, a "bigger" version of Plekanec is probably a pretty apt comparison.
Defnitely. Eller is a 3rd line center, and I think he has the potential to become a good one. Someone from la Presse mentioned a 3rd line of Leblanc-Eller-Bourque next year. I'm all for that.
That would be MAG. I like it, but it's more probable (and better) that Bourque stays on the 1st line and Kostitsyn-Eller-Leblanc becomes next year's 3rd line. I could live with Bourque-xxx-Gionta as our 1st line next season.
Like nikko said he is a beast he is used as a 3rd line center in a checking role against top lines. Given no pp time thats why his production isnt very high but very skilled and when he gets the 2nd line role with pp time I believe his production will increase to a 50-70pt two-way guy
And to expand on that: Eller is far too reliable defensively to be shifted to wing. His vision is being way underrated. He's just developed the habit of trying (and sometimes succeeding) to do it all himself, but believe me, he can pass.
I definitely think he would better fit the winger style of play. God damn this kid has talent but he probably has the worst tunnel vision of the team. Tonight, he scored an awesome goal but palushaj was open for the one timer. Eller never notice that. Moreover, he is real good around the boards. He is kind of an hybrid between a centerman and a winger, but by now he will have to improve his playmaking to become a great centerman in the NHL. If he can't do that, he will never surpass Plekanec.
