Value is there, but both teams say thanks but no thanks.

Van is more interested in Doan, Aucoin or Whitney if Phoenix falls out.

Hodgson will be able to fill the hole left by Turris, and the value is definitely close, but Canucks probably won't trade away the prospect they invested so many years who finally start to show some pretty good signs. Besides, like the other 50 Canucks fan posters said, their priority is a physical RH defenseman.

I'd take OEL over Hodgson 10 times out of 10. Canucks would have to add if you ask me (being a 3rd party observer).

OEL has more value than Cody. The Canucks would be very, very scary for years to come if they got him

Of the OEL, Gormley, Yandle, Rundblad group of young defensemen. Rundblad is the only one who shoots right so he would probably be the Canucks best target if they were trying to get one out of Phoenix. But at the same time, that is probably why phoenix brought him in.

Rundblad will probably fit the bill more since he is a Swede to pair with Edler, and his repertoire resembles Salo, with better skate ability. He will be able to fill in that void when Salo retires or get another random injury.

OEL will become a top D in a year or two in Phoenix. Canucks already has Edler and the two just overlap too much in playstyle without making up for what Canucks lack.

Take out the 3rd and add another asset going to Phoenix and it would be quite fair.

It's not insulting but there is absolutely no way that Phoenix deals OEL. He's their top organizational asset right now.

Hodgson is in the perfect position for the Canucks. He's being groomed to move up once the Sedins eventually retire much like when Kesler was playing on the third line. He also has turned that third line into a scoring line all the while being on his elc. On top of that he is starting to flourish. Besides goalie, I think strength up the middle is critical to continued sucess. Althou he is far from being untouchable, I'd be very against trading him in most any situation.

I'd also like to add that the Canucks aren't exactly hurting when it comes to defensive prospects. We need someone that is already in their prime that is more the same age as our current core or is a vet bringing Cup experience.

Shy

OEL is going to be a quality scoring #1 dman for sure.

I'd love to get OEL but he's untouchable, and as shy said above, Cody is starting to flourish here now and having top centermen is vital for long lasting continued success in the NHL.

OEL already is a #2 in Phoenix and may well have overtaken Yandle by the end of the season. His progress has been that fast.

The offer is a good one but I dont think Phoenix does it.

OEL is worth more. Phoenix would never do this.

Not even close. We dealt Turrris, who imo, is a upgrade over Hodgson for Runblad. In turn OEL>>>>>Runblad.

OEL starts with a first line center and you go from there.

As a Canuck fan I think OEL is worth more then CoHo AINEC. I love how Hodgson has developed but OEL will be better then Edler with in a season and he's only 20. Great skater, great vision, great positionally and has shown he can use his body if need be. Too much value for Phx to even consider moving him. Nice pick Yotes!

Well lets temper that a little, Turris was dealt not because he was expendable but because of personal issues with management.

Besides Turris is a year older the CoHo, so 1 more year of development in pro hockey and Hodgson is out producing Turris (points per game) by a pretty significant margin while only getting 12:45 of ice time a night, so I'd be reluctant to deem Turris the better of the 2

In my opinion, this isnt even close. OEL is a much more valuable piece. I wish the Oil could pick him up...

On that thought, would the value be there for Phoenix in a trade focused around Edmonton's 2012 1st rounder?

What do you think OEL is?

As far as the value goes, it's close, but no way does Phoenix consider this. OEL is probably more untouchable than Yandle, but that doesn't exactly mean that Yandle is available either.

I agree that OEL's value is higher than Hodgson's, and i like Hodgson an awful lot. I think they're both in the same sort of discussion in terms of calibre of prospects, but you have to give the edge to OEL in terms of positional value. Potential true top-pairing d-men seem to me to be the most sought after commodity these days, even more so than potential top line Centers.

As others have mentioned, i think Rundblad is the more likely target for the Canucks, and likely the better fit as well. But i'd much rather work a deal around something like Schneider for Rundblad and keep Hodgson, who is looking like (much like OEL), the sort of young player that you just don't trade.

I hear ya man. The whole Turris debacle was the main reason he was dealt. However, if Turris fetched Runblad, I am curious to to see what OEL could get. I would guess more than Hodgson, just my opinion.
