Joe Sakic

has 870 games as an avalanche. Stastny is number 10 for games played not number 2. http://www.avalanchedb.com/records/regtop.htm

I think they said Stastny played the 2nd most games with the Avalanche where the Avalanche were the only team the player played on. Kind of stupid, it's not even a milestone but whatever.

They said 400 only with avalanche, Sakic had way more but played for the nordique and so on. This stat is stupid though... I give you that

400 Stastny games + Mcnabb + Rye whiskey = 2nd most games played as an Avalanche.

Sakic has 1300 or so games and only 800 with the Avs. Mcnabb was off by a lot.

They specifically mentioned that Sakic doesn't count since he played with Nordiques.

But I don't know whether someone like Roy (or Tanguay, Yelle or Liles) counts, he didn't play for Nordiques.

This is a perfectly valid thing to get bent out of shape over!

Why wouldn't he count for second most games played? That's like saying Gretzky isn't leading scorer for the oilers because he played for LA.

I tweeted about this last night. I thought I misheard them because Sakic's GP #'s aren't even close to Stastny's.

Either he was misunderstood or he was hammered drunk.

He meant as a player playing games exclusively as an Av. Play for the Nords or any other team and you don't count = Hejduk #1 and Stastny #2.

Those guys dont count because they played for other teams. Roy for the Canadiens, Tanguay for a bunch of other teams, same with Yelle and JML plays for the Leafs.

This record is only for guys who have played their whole career with the Avs and not another team. And yes the Nordiques count as another team. Which makes this pointless because there is no competition.

Stastny is #2 on the list for GP for players who have spent their entire career with the Avalanche.

Which is pretty dumb because that has got to be quite a pathetic list.

That's correct. Gretzky is not the #1 scorer if the requirement is that you played only for Oilers. Pretty much same that Gretzky wasn't the Calder trophy winner, because he already played in WHA.

Or that player X (I'm sure you'll find an example) didn't lead team Y in scoring in season Z, because he was traded from another team that season.

The key here is that you can make whatever requirements you want and get the results from there, it's a whole different thing whether the result matters anything.

they immediately said afterwards that this doesn't include players who played for the Nordiques, so I don't see the big deal here. It's a meh stat, but whatever.
