would be so funny to see this current team play against the leafs first post lookout year, which may have been the slowest team ever with allison leading the charge

You must mean trailing the charge

So if we have the fastest set of forwards, with an exception of two, who has the fastest D in the league? If speed were the sole criterion, whose D would best complement our forwards?

Yes but he didn't have many who kept up with him. This TEAM is the fastest still imo.

Vancouver has gotta be up there.

Burrows, Kesler, Hansen, Raymond, and the sedins are all remarkable skaters.

The hawks had a great skating defensive core before moving Soupie last year.

Burke has tried to improve the defensive speed with Lebda last year

Komi is slow, same with Schenn, up front I say we're the fastest but in the back not so much.

fastest Leaf team? didn't realize Burrows, Kesler, Hansen, Raymond, and the Sedins ever played in TO. I must have missed that.

welll... since the game is significantly faster post-lock-out, and we've been horrible for the majority of that time, and we've finally become moderately decent, (not yet fully decent)

yes... yes this is the fastest leaf team ever.

that said, since the lock-out, we can likely say the same thing about every team in the league over those 6-7 (or whatever) years.

I've been a fan since the early 90's so that is all I have to go on, but by far the fastest leaf time I've seen play, forward wise. Especially since I recall how damn slow, the Quinn era leafs could be, sure they always had their 3rd period bursts, but by and large they were fairly flat footed. Of course its hard to compare, different game now.

A google search, turned up a bleacher report of the 50 fastest skaters in NHL history. The report is dated november 2011, interestingly enough, Ron Ellis, Dave Keon, Mike Walton, and Paul Henderson make the list. They all played on the 68/69 Leafs.

That being said, I think the list is pretty inaccurate mainly because Kessel and Grabovski don't make the list and I think they are faster than any of the older Leafs were.

For the time though, the 68/69 team must have been considered the fastest.

I'm starting to think the Leafs speed is also a disadvantage to us. Leafs rely on their speed and skating to create chances because we can't do board work. That requires more energy and that's why I find that the team is really weary on back to back games.

Yes and what happens to the leafs in the playoff grind?
They need to win in less then 7 games to get through the next round.

Wilson knows this so tries to save lines but that is not often successful.

Smart ass!

It was directed to the conversations about them being fastest in the league.
