Huh. No longer the "Official Fire Alain Vigneault Thread".

Don't tell me we're mellowing...

Well if we're not going to talk about firing him what shall we talk about?

What gum he chews?

Whether he's ever thought of entering a Ron Swanson lookalike contest?

Have we talked about all that slurping he does during interviews? Gross.

How about rather than firing Vigneault he goes on some sort of work-share. Maybe Scotty Bowman and he can split the duties?

I like the idea, how about AV gets 1 while Bowman gets 81 games + playoffs? Brodeur once said he can play 82 games if needed, i am pretty sure Bowman can coach 81 games without worning out!

Seriously though, i hope the team finally done something about AV if he continued to be out-coached in the post-season.

I do not agree he has been out-coached.

Just as the thread discussion was beginning to look a lot better too, we reach 50+ pages.

But I will reiterate my point that I'm not a fan of the ridiculously skewed zone starts.

Also I think this question is worth considering if we're going to have any meaningful debate:

It would be helpful for the rest of us if you could provide an example of him being out coached.

Being outcoached is just another scapegoat for fans to admit that their team simply wasnt good enough.

A bad coaching decision would be something like pulling the goalie after 1 bad goal, then putting in Schneids. Then pulling him after the next goal and putting Lu back in.

But only a fool would do that

Didn't Keanan win a cup doing exactly that?

I can't recall if he did it much on that run. But in PHI hell yeah.

Outcoached to me is the other coach successfully adapting his system to take advantage of weaknesses in the other.

It really had become kind of an "all things Vigneault" thread, whether it was firing him or keeping him around. So I changed it slightly.

But this is the thing, we'll never know why a coach might change (or refuse to change) his system, or even whether they do or not - the players actions on the ice don't necessarily reflect the strategy of the coaching staff..

All we can do is speculate, and look at the results.

Well, plus the old thread title was an embarrassment.

TBH, while I would like to see a fresh face, I would also like to see from AV just a little more emotion and "parenting" so to speak when it comes to critical play or times.

I really like how he stuck to his guns with the lines the other night. Sometimes you need to do that to let the players know the play was unacceptable.

I want to see more of that, I want to see a timeout used here or there and I want to see him use players he has little faith in more,(AKA Ballard) so that they are and asset not a liability come playoffs when you need them to perform.

Personally, the only thing I don't like about Alain Vigneault is his use of "real" versus "really".

Real - is an adjective (modifies nouns or pronouns) and means "genuine". E.g. "What this team needs is a real puck moving defenseman to quarterback the power play."

Really is an adverb (modifies verbs) and means "truely" or "very much so". E.g. "Roberto is playing really well right now but Vigneault won't hesitate to put Schnieder in."

Perhaps because French was his first language?

Ha, that's always bothered me too. Hockey people tend to mix the two up quite a bit.

I always thought it was more of an American thing.

Of course, AV did play his pro hockey in the states, so..
