Salary cap hits are about equal. Montreal gets a decent forward in Lombardi, Komi gets to go back to where he was actually a good player, and might return to his previous form.
Leafs get a prospect for taking Gomez. And you never know, Gomez might play well outside Montreal. If he doesn't, send him to the AHL.
Easy pass for the Habs. As has been explain at nauseum in other Gomez threads, Montreal won't be giving up assets to move Gomez. If they need the cap space, they'll bury him in the minors.
You serious? We give up our depth to take a flyer on a small 5th rounder?
Come on....
Gallagher has developed in something much better than his former draft selection. I bet 29 scouting departments wished they had used one of their pre-147th picks to grab him.
Please - Gauthier would be immediately fired if he turned this deal down.
You give up nothing!
We give up one of our best prospects, albeit with an overpaid albatross.
You give up two players who are overpaid and don't contribute very much to your team. Lombardi and Komisarek are on the books for the next 1 and 2 years respectively, however their combined cap hit is higher, plus we give up a good prospect. How again does this make sense for Montreal?
Sure Lombardi and Komisarek are good. Not stars, but they're good. Would fit better on Montreal than Toronto
How? The manner Komi left Montreal ensured that he likely wont be welcomed back anytime soon. As for Lombardi, he'd be our what, 4th line center? no thanks. As it has been said before, after this season, dumping Gomez's 10 mil over 2 years is far easier to swallow. Montreal won't give up assets to move him, we're not money conscious like Anaheim or Nashville. We don't need Lombardi and Komi's role on this team has already been taken by Emelin.
No way from the Leafs:
-Lombadri looks great on the 3rd line, starting to get back to game speed (you can see it in his game the last few weeks)
-Leafs don't need the cap space right now
-Komisarek is a much better player than given credit for (overpaid - obviously, but a serviceable depth defender)
-Gomez hasn't score for a CALENDAR YEAR
Why the heck would Montreal want to do that trade? Gallagher will be a better player than the others within a couple years and we can just dump Gomez in the minors if need be. Huge NO from MTL.
Gallagher is a sure shot NHL player, most likely a good second liner, absolutely no chance on this deal happening from a MTL POV, I'd rather trade guys like Beaulieu, Leblanc and Tinordi than Galllagher but not from such a crappy proposal.
@Canadian Ghost
1 well played WJC from Gallagher does NOT mean he will be in the NHL some day ..
Some examples of players who played well at the WJC, but didn't amount to much...
Lauri Tukonen, Stanislav Lascek, Patrik Bartschi, Igor Grigorenko, Yuri Trubachev
I see the same thing happening with Mark Stone, like he is already a write in to be a premier goal scorer in the NHL.
