Grimsby Peach Kings

Hey guys and girls, I was wondering if anyone on here follows Junior C hockey, specifically the Grimsby Peach Kings. Myself and two of my classmates are following them this year for our beat assignment in our journalism/broadcasting program. We have a facebook page called " Inside the Grimsby Peach Kings" with interviews of players and coaches, pre-game stories and post-game recaps. They're one of the most accomplished junior teams in Canada, with a great history. They won the championship last year in their region and are currently 16-0 to start this season.

Anyway if anyone has any ideas to improve the page or wants to contribute to the page in some capacity you can message me on here.

Here's the page, enjoy.

I can't say as though I follow Junior C hockey these days, but I remember watching Grimsby play Essex for the Ontario (possibly Southern Ontario, I can't really remember..) championship a couple of times when I was younger.

You will have to share some insights on Junior C hockey on the boards here.In the western provinces where I have lived and worked my entire life, it is pretty much WHL or Junior A level hockey.
There is not much in the way of formalised Jr B leagues and Junior C is almost non existent.
Please tell us more.

My Aunt and Uncle live in Grimsby so I am naturally a fan. I'll check your page out.

I had a buddy who played for them in the 80's so i saw a lot of the Peach Kings. That era the word "accomplished" wasn't mentioned much though

I aslo have a lot of family there, my cousin played defence for them in the 90's.

And of course don't forget probably the most famous Peach king of all: Steve Mason

Jr. C hockey is really geared towards kids already attending Post Secondary schooling, or local talent that cannot make the jump to the OHL or Jr. A/B leagues.

It is a lower level hockey but is far from being "bush league" It also offers Overage players, as 21 years old. The catch is, to play as a 21 year old you need to have played for that team as a 20 year old. This rule gets a lot of 20 year old Jr. A players to leave their Tier II teams to play Jr C so they can play that extra year of Jr. Hockey.

Jr. C is also famous for throwing large amounts of CASH at players to entice them to play for their teams. IF you have followed the OHA vs. Norwich Battle in September you will know what I am talking about.

Overall, the STRONG teams could compete with Tier II because of the 21 year old rule, the biggest difference is goaltending and coaching, as most Jr. C teams focus their $$$ on players and not on coaching.

I coached in a Jr. C organization for a few seasons and am educated on the happenings in these leagues. Jr. C and even Jr. D are definitely a good option for players that are focused on other aspects of life but still wish to play competitive hockey.
