Just listen and look for it tonight (if he's doing the broadcast). He'll make a point, and then later on contradict that same point.

I remember one night he went on and on about how quick Boston's D was; and how they were using their "tremendous" foot speed to break up rushes. Right after he said that Montreal scored and he started saying "well Boston's D is notorious for being slow..."

I couldn't stop laughing

Leighton had spent too much time in the NHL, and Backlund had spent too little time in NA, to be exempt. Something like that.
I think it is somehow related to his minimum salary or something like that. We would not have signed him if he wasn't exempt from waivers - we already had Leighton and Backlund at this time.

His AHL salary is 125k, and only players earning 105k or below are exempt due to salary reasons. To allow veterans a chance to get called up, there's also a rule about having played enough games in NHL/AHL/ECHL, but also a limit to how many you have played in the NHL the past two seasons, however. Leighton had played too much in the NHL, and Backlund hadn't been in the NA for long enough to be exempt. That's how I've understood it, at least. We had some discussion about this in the summer, when it was learned that Bacashihua's AHL salary was that high (I don't really understand why he's paid that much... I'm thinking Homer just wanted to **** around with the journalists and fans a little bit).

"Ha, his contract is totally worth it to see people try to spell and pronounce that name."

I'd have to re-read a certain part of the CBA but there is a clause regarding "goaltender exemption." I am not sure if it is in play here, however goalies do get treated differently at times per the CBA.

my prediction today is flyers lose 5 to 4

I'm bored... from what I can gather, the clause we're dealing with here is section 50.9 on pp 223-224. After first establishing that players that have to pass through waivers to be sent down, and are on either one-way NHL deals, or on two-way deals where the minor league salary exceeds a certain number (105k for this season) also have to go through recall waivers, this part follows:

Quote:
The Re-Entry Waiver procedure will not, however, be applicable to Veteran Minor League Players defined as follows: (i) for goaltenders, Players who have: (A) played in 180 or more professional games in North America (NHL, AHL and ECHL), and (B) not spent more than 80 NHL games on NHL roster over the prior two (2) seasons or more than 40 NHL games on NHL roster in the immediately prior season: and (ii) for defensemen and forwards, Players who have: (A) played in 320 or more professional games in North America (NHL, AHL and ECHL), and (B) not spent more than 80 NHL games on NHL roster over the prior two (2) seasons or more than 40 NHL games on NHL roster in the immediately prior season.

That's the likely determining condition. I came across two other possible options that may or may not have been practiced today:

Since the term "emergency conditions" was applied in this instance, the CBA does define that as to having [13.12 (m)] "below two goalies, six defensemen and twelve goalies." Proof of injury/illness has to be sent to the League. Another clause states that "A Player on loan to a club of any league affiliated with the league may be recalled from such loan under emergency conditions at any time for the duration of the emergency..."

16.13 The "goaltender exemption" in the CBA can be used a maximum of two times and last for 48 hours.

that post with Laperriere and the screaming Flyers fan are the only reason I ever watch the evening news - just so I can see insane Philly fans do stuff like that. Frickin classic...

If anyone has a link, it can be posted.

Firstrow wasn't working for me earlier and the other site doesn't list this game (has others).
