He caries a $1.1 million dollar cap hit but makes only 900k next season. Personally if I were him I'd take the money in the AHL, he'll very likely soon be punch drunk and that money could help provide for the futures of him and his family. I like Shelley, and I'd prefer if he stayed on the roster, maybe play 15-20 games, but his cap hit or the roster max of 23 players may prevent that.

There isn't any way in hell he retires and leave 1.1 million on the table.

I like Shelley, but I'd prefer if he doesn't play a game as a Flyer again.

Again, 900k, but I agree, and I don't blame him. I wouldn't retire either.

Weren't people saying the same about Cote? Signed a 3 year extensions, oh dear god he will never leave. Then all the sudden retirement + instant coaching gig + all those cool benefits + maybe some cool kickbacks from the org. I can see it happening, especially with how EVERYONE on the team has not one bad thing to say about the man. Seems to be quite well respected and well liked.

I wouldn't mind the warrior on the team next year, we'll see if there's cap space.

You mean 5'11 rats like Harry Z who manage to be -11 while adding almost nothing offensively or playing like a true 4th liner? Yes.

This is a team with a history built on toughness.

Wow I didn't think there was a Flyer fan left that would defend Shelley. Good luck you brave brave soul.

From what I can tell he isn't a Flyers fan. He's a fan of goons who no longer serve any useful purpose in the NHL. He probably thinks Orr is a good player.

Rinaldo and Sestito are perfect fourth liners for our team. Rinaldo as the fast hard hitting pest and Sestito as the big enforcer. It is hard to give Shelley playing time with this team. With 1 year left on his deal at 900k I am sure a team like Florida could give up a low round draft pick for him.

We are a team built on a history of useful toughness. Shelley is totally useless.

I'm also a Flyer fan. Orr wasn't that bad really, and offensively he was better than Phillipe Dupuis who the leafs played 30 games this year, he didn't score a point. Orr had a big goal in 5 games playing even fewer minutes.

I wonder why Orr isn't in the NHL anymore? Is it because he's as useless as Shelley?

Being more useful than Dupuis isn't exactly an accomplishment. It's like saying a meal is a success because it tasted like bile, but not quite as bad as poop.

Sestito is a spot-picker, a hair-puller, and not a real enforcer, I like him as an eventual 3rd liner though. The guy can play.

How many real enforcers are left? I do think he has 3rd line potential but with the depth on this team he won't be there for awhile. Sestito is more of an enforcer of those that are left and he can play hockey.

and Sestito brings just as much toughness at a better rate. He had more fights in the Rangers game on Sunday then Shelley has all season.
As far as your comment about Harry Z goes, for what little he brings to the table its more then Shelley brings. Harry Z is a rookie and learning the pro game and can work on things, Shelley is a vet and as they say you are what you are. and for Shelley that is a big pile of crap.

I love Shelly in the locker room, I hate shelley on the roster.

Keep him in some capacity if you can.

I wouldnt be surpirsed if he retired though. If he did, the Flyers organization would still find a way to pay him what they would owe him, so it doesnt matter

In 5-10 years he will be a coach in the minors. See all of our other past tough players!

Actually, same number of fights. But anyway, Harry Z can learn in the AHL now, he should have never made the team.
