I miss Ward, need GRIT !! [I'm New]

Hey to the Habs Fan Community

I join you, its my 3rd post on HFBoards and the 1st on the Habs one..

Just for say something.. First of all, I hear a lot of fans crying about Gainey is not a good GM and blablabla.. What he brings us ?? He bring us Alex Kovalev for Jozef Balej who is on the way to be a BIG BUST, dont remember ? The Murray / Hossa trade look like one of good move past time, I LOVE Murray, forechek, intensity.. the total opposite of Marcel Hossa !! BTW, Hossa have score 1 time in last 20 games ..

But .. two errors, two BIG errors, Bob do : FORGET THE GRIT !! He forget to put player like Steve Begin or like him when he played .. WHY THE HELL sign Vandermeer and relase JASON WARD one of my favorite player ??? A line Ward - Bégin - Lapperiere would be AWESOME and we can have 2 or 3 more wins with this guy instead of guys like Sundstrom or Ivanans or what ever..

welcome to the habs board, which is definitely the most unique board u will find on hfboards.

But yeah Ward might have been a good keep, but I'm not worried about grit bc we do have murray, begin, ferland etc.

Thanks for your support man cause im about to lose it. This is the New NHL for god's sake, we cant Hook anymore so why the abnoxious 1-2-2 system? We make every team look like powerhouses cause they keep forechecking our D while we let them carry the puck out of their zone with an escort.

1- Welcome to the board
2- Don't use your first posts to post dumb trade proposals on the main board.
3- Ward had as much "grit" as Sundstrom. He was a solid PKer wich we have boat loads of.
Ward is a dime-a-dozen type of player. If you're just looking at size then you should love Bonk.

I bet that in a couple of weeks someone will come hwere and post that we should have kept Dagenais and his "grit" because he's 6'5".

You pushes a little there ..

I dont say a BIG GUY give immediately a good grit player, but Ward wasnt only a solid PKer, he hit hard, use his body and have underrated offensive ability.

I dont say we dont have enough PKer, I say we dont have enough player like Begin or Laperriere

For the love of god stop mentioning Bonk whenever someone says we need a big player, he might be big but he doesn't play like one, he plays like a beaten puppy.

That's where you're wrong. He had trouble catching up to other players, let alone deliver a check.
Everyone wants player like Begin, that is why we have Begin. If Ward was like Begin he would still be here.

Ward !?!
the little Plekanec already = 2x Ward .

Ward is at top a 4 th liner in an average or under average team. Murray , Ferland ,Higgins are a way better than him .

That's my point. Rejean Houle was obssesed with size also but couldn't see talent if it jumped up and slapped him in the face.
Size =/ grit and to prove that point I like to mention Bonk, I copuld use Dagenais or Traverse as examples also, your pick
People say we need big player but what we need is guys who play big.

I dont say he is ESSENTIAL to our team but damn god why sign Vandermeer instead of Ward ??

The guy is underrated. Yep, hes a bust. A big bust. But hes a very solid 4th line foward, better than Sundstrom who is making near the double of him (hes around 1,2M i think ?)..

And, they have no avatar on this board ??

IMO you are lost at sea if you think Ward is better than Sundstrom. If Sunny were with the Rangers now, Ward wouldn't get much ice time.

We signed Plek instead of Ward. Ward doesn't fight so Bob tried with Vandermeer.
Anyways your wrong about Ward but if you miss him that's your perogative.

To add an avatar look under User CP right below the forums name.

Cant see how we sign Plek instead of Ward, hes center. Right, he can play wing but ..

Sundstrom and Vandermeer were both UFA, Vandermeer was sign to a 1way contract and Sundstrom hes 1M when hes only 625.00$ and he can do the same damn job than Sundstrom. We have too much small defensive foward with Bégin, Sundstrom, Bulis, Higgins and Plekanec and same Koivu during PK.

And thanks for the avatar

yeah, i used to think that Houle was all about size too. At one point, I believe we had a line of Zubrus-Linden-Stevenson. That's one very big line.

But then, he traded big Scott Thornton for tiny Juha Lind. Then I got confused at what Houle's objective really was.

Ward...no thanks

I'd rather give a shot to our up and coming rookies (at this point I think its very subjective who those players actually are) than have them rot in the minors, grit or no grit. The fact of the matter is that Ward was a player who absolutely played his heart out every shift, but he was injury prone and surely would have been in close competition against Dagenais in a speed competition.

So all in all, he didn't fit into any spot on this team.

And for digging up the past again, I only have this response:

MightyPleky, You chose a very bad time to join these boards . The habs message board is arguably spending its worse moments in recent memory with crappy angst filled threads which directly corrolates with the crappy unmotivated play by les canadiens. Amidst all this negativity, I wish you a warm welcome here.

Ps. I miss wardo too. He probably didn't have any place left here when everyone was healthy but he sure could've helped us during the time when everyone was injured at once.

Sundstrom

Sundstrom is a very inteligant player. He knows what he is doing, and I am sure that you all have heard this in the past but the best hockey player of our generation said that Sundstrom was the smartest player he has ever played with. He does what he has to do, we just have to get him doing a little extra and that would be cool.

I agree fullhearted about the 2 forcheckers going in, yes we might be able to pick up 2-3 more wins, but to get those 2-3 more wins we need a goaltender who is on the ball, and play the way he should.

The rumors that are going around I am sure have something to do with his play, and I am sure if we had a family like his (sponges) we would feel the rope tightening arourd our necks also.

BG will make a move, lets just hope it is the correct one. BG is a wise man, lets just thank someone that he is no Middlebury.

Ward would have been a great fit on a team like our '86 or '93 Cup winners, he is like _the_ prototypical 4th liner on a great team, but he really doesn't belong on such a rollercoaster struggling team as we have had more recently. I'm sure the Rangers are pretty happy about it, anyway.

Lucky for Darz that Higgins is getting all that prime ice now, though... the Wardometer is a bit stuck on unlucky 13 and Higgins is coming fast...
