Let's look at the bright side. The last time we had this kind of a quality prospect in the WJC's it was 2002. We had these Frolov and Cammelleri kids then. Not too shabby I'd say.

Pierre Maguire was on the radio the other day here and he had a list of 5 guys who he thought were the best players in the tourney.

One of them was our beloved Lauri Tukonen

"All flash and no finish" eh Pierre? Looks like Lauri gained a convert.

Exactly what I was thinking.

During the Canada/Finland game he said the above quote about him. Then at the end of the tournament he's talking about how great Tuks is. A complete 180.

I certainly remember Aulin but he's the one who didn't make it and he's the one we dumped. It was a good year to be a Kings fan though. We were ranked as the top team prospectwise in the tournament by TSN because of the sheer talent that had LA next to its name.

And now you know why people in Canada watch HNIC instead of the TSN broadcasts. McGuire is just awful.

to be fair to mcguire, he did call the kings his MONSTER darkhorse team in the west very early on in the season, so he can't be that awful besides who doesn't love a monster lol

Fine, when McGuire agrees with me I tolerate him. The rest of the time I can't stand his way of talking which sounds like it was based more off of too much time spent reading comics and watching Adam West-era Batman shows than being developed in meaningful human conversation.

I would not take 3 Renbergs (in their prime) over Lehtinen. Jeez...Lehtinen is the best defensive forward in the world while being very effective in the offensive end as well.

Tukonen looked very good in the WJC, I hope he will be in the NHL next year. He should be ready by then.

IMO Tukonen will be a Modin type player. Very impressive on the ice but not too great on the scoring sheet. Solid 2nd liner.

I don't think Renberg is getting enough credit in this thread. He was a great player, who was a shell of his former self while playing in Toronto. Size wise, Tukonen is going to be much closer to Renberg than Lehtinen. I don't see the comparision being all that far off.
