marleau - Thornton - Pavelski
Clowe - Couture - Havlat
korpikoski - Marleau - mcginn
Winchester - Handzus - hanzal

give up
ferriero, desjardins, 2nd round/goalie prospect?
I'm sure they already have a very good idea of where Whitney would be willing to go should they decide to move him.

Vrbata, Korpikoski & Hanzal are not going to be available period. Korpikoski & Hanzal are both young and signed to great contracts - there is absolutely no reason to move either one.

Vrbata was just signed this past summer, also to a good contract, and he's their 2nd leading scorer and their only player w/ over 20 goals, they have no reason to move him either.

Staubitz was such a stupid player. Not surprised he ended up on waivers.

Think about it. Take a look at this picture I will paint for you.

Doan and Whitney get to talking. Doan says it'd be cool to win a Cup and not move his family too far. Whitney mentions how cool it was to win a Cup and that San Jose is close and a pretty good organization. Whitney then tells Doan that'd it'd be fun to go back for one last Cup run to end his career where he started. Doan tells Whitney he has had fun playing with him and a Cup run in San Jose would be fun together. They both then go to management and tell them that they would like to win a Cup and management might as well get some value for them because they most liekly will not go far in the playoffs.

Management agrees and off to SJ they go and Whitney sails off into the sunset after winning another Cup. Doan decides he likes it here and signs a one-year deal to reload for next season.

Sharks then trade off older assest to restock the prospect pool and remain contenders for years to come after back to back Cups.

I forgot what why was Whitney traded (or not re-signed)? Was it amicable?

We waived him, cause he sucked haha.

I doubt he has any loyalty to this org.

Damn this an active thread. Yesterday would have been a good game to showcase Bailey. No points but played a very good game. Kind of reflected for most of the season as I said earlier, great hands and play but nothing to show for it.

Loyalty, maybe not, but good things/memories? Likely. I mean, I could be wrong (I was 1-6 years old at the time, so my recall is a bit hazy), but hasn't the Sharks organization always been one of the better ones? I.e., due to that and the whole nostalgia thing, I could imagine the Sharks would be one of the places to which he'd be willing to go.

Phoenix will not be buyers like the big teams nor will they be sellers. They may not have a chance at the Cup but the league wants that playoff money just as much as anyone else. They won't sabotage the team for long term assets while they're running the team.

I mentioned Doan in the last thread, guess no one thought I was serious

Think about it, Doan is happy in Phoenix and doesn't want to relocate a second time, especially if it's back to canada, I believe he mentioned this in the early rumours of PHX going back to Winnipeg.

If Phoenix does move next year, he won't want to leave, thus if he were to go to one of the west coast teams, He'd be closer to his family.

His contract isn't too bad, and he's a great leader, I'd take Doan in a heartbeat.

I think that is extremely unlikely. We'll do something.

Probably, but in DW's case it's better to make a mediocre trade and fail than to stand pat and fail. If he make's a mediocre trade he can blame it on the player not fulfilling expectations (Moen). If he does nothing he'll be seen as possibly impotent in the market (Either because of bad will with other GM's, or past dealings depleting the assets too much).

If we see a last minute deadline deal trade for a 'bad fit' mediocre player, we know what happened.

Hooray, more rumors:

Quote:
Paul Gaustad’s name is starting to surface around the league as a pretty serviceable rental for the remainder of the year. There’s a chance Buffalo is active at the deadline and may look to unload a number of players. Gaustad would fit the bill for a several teams.

Sources say San Jose, Vancouver, Colorado, and Detroit are all possible destinations for Gaustad. More may surface as we move along.

The Sharks will make a move before the deadline. But it won't be a blockbuster. DW will add depth with a 3rd or 4th line winger, or D. I don't expect him to get another big name. Last time that happened Campbell screwed us.

I've got an itch... And the only thing that can scratch it... Is Ray Whitney... Or Parise. Parise could scratch it too. #Walken
