Fantrax customer support isn't clearing anything up for me so I'm still very confused sadly. I sent this e-mail to everyone in the league:
Quote:
Since I'm unsure about the overall activity level of the league and what Fantrax's rules are about keeper administration, here's what I'm going to do. Report to the HFBoards topic and state your 8 keepers plus your prospects. Remember, prospects are any player with 82 or less games played and do not count towards your 8 keeper spots. The HFBoards topic can be found here:
Brett Connolly
Matt Read
Jonathan Bernier
Nino Niederreiter
Jacob Markstrom
Luke Adam
John Carlson
Ryan Johansen
My prospects
Mikael Granlund
Jaden Schwartz
Joel Armia
Carter Ashton
Charlie Coyle
Scott Glennie
Dougie Hamilton
Matt Hackett
David Rundblad
Braden Holtby
The reason I have players that should technically count as prospects listed as keepers is because, per the rules, you're only allowed 10 prospects to begin with and I have way more then 10 that would count as prospects. Nobody else has nearly as much as me though so I don't think I have to worry about anyone else with this.

Thanks for checking in, those of you that did. I really appreciate it. Seems like the league only has two inactive people at the moment and those two teams are being contracted at the end of the season anyhow so all appears right in the world for now.
Gonna be interesting to see who everybody picks for keepers. I traded all my good players and I still had tough decisions to make. Had to drop Ribeiro, Connolly, Zajac, Vermette, Konopka, Dalpe, and Petry. Really sucks losing Zajac...
Sure some of you have it worse though. Been looking through everyone's teams just to theorize what the free agency is gonna look like in the off-season and it looks like a lot of good players are going to be dropped.

Michael Del Zotto
Sam Gagner
Jordan Eberle Prospects:
Joal Armia
Carl Hagelin

Brayden Schenn
Jonathan Merrill

Interesting selections thus far. Please note that your keeper and prospect lists can be modified all the way up to the February 28th deadline. Only then will they be final. So everyone feel free to post your lists now and modify them later if you wish.

Quick question does a prospect have to be drafted in the prospect draft to be considered a prospect? If I have a player that meets the requirements of a prospect but was not drafted in the prospect draft can I have him in my lineup as a prospect in regards to turning over into next year

I don't think so considering the prospect draft was 5 rounds and a lot of people have 7-10 propsects.
I thought it was changed to the off-season for declaring keepers?
It was that way but then I changed it back. All this changing of what's going on is due to Fantrax being extremely unclear about the keeper deadline in general. Their customer support hasn't helped any.
So what I'm going to do is set the keeper deadline to February 28th (same day as the trade deadline) and keep track of all the keepers and prospects in this topic in case the keeper administration screen never opens up.

No, they don't have to be. Only reason it's this way is because it's too difficult a rule to enforce if only drafted prospects counted as prospects.

I am a bit confused as to why we can't declare our sleepers at the end of the season. What's the rush?
So we can see how our players perform for the rest of the season
I think that the first two thirds of a season are enough of an indicator to make a smart and informed decision on who to keep. Plus, it just makes keeper decisions that much tougher and forces "GMs" to be that much smarter.

If 75 percent of a season isn't enough for a person to make smart keeper decisions then, quite frankly, I don't think they're that good at fantasy hockey.

Someone could tear up their knee or something and a GM would be stuck.
Then the player would have the rest of the season and the off-season to heal. If it's an impact player then I'd imagine you would keep him anyhow unless the injury was career-ending or something like that.
I consider this an extremely small risk and, again, I think it just makes the rest of the season that much more exciting.

What do you honestly think the chances of either of those things happening is? If a player has a career ending injury then I'll figure out a way to compensate for it.
As for a player blowing up, I doubt it. We're 66 to 75 percent through the season and if a player hasn't blown up yet do you honestly expect it to happen? Besides, that's why there's 10 prospect slots so that the players most likely to break out, those being young guys, have extra slots to be kept. Plus, as I said before, it forces you all to make smart decisions and makes the rest of the season that much more interesting.
Plus it's not like only one of you is facing these risks. Every single person in the league will be challenged by these risks so it's an even playing ground.
I'll move the keeper deadline to the off-season if that's the popular opinion, but I'd be adverse to doing that without popular opinion.

I don't know, maybe not. Every keeper league I've ever been has waited until the draft to give GMs the most options possible though
