Alexander Ovechkin

What is his current value and would Washington be willing to part with him?

He is currently 42nd in League scoring. He is in the middle of his second straight dissappointing season. He does not appear motivated and his value to the Caps (for the amount they are paying him) is dropping.

I realize he is the face of the franchise for the Caps and his value extends beyond his on-ice performance, but I can't help but think that "Hockey wise" it might be best to part ways.

What is his current value?

Montreal offers;

Pacioretty
Tinordi
1st Round pick 2012

Why does Washington do this?

Pacioretty has nearly as many points as OV this year playing with worse players and can take OV's place on the top line. He is also younger than OV and provides some long term cap relief when compared to OV.

Tinordi is a first round draft pick, future stud D-man and great leader in junior hockey. He can be paired with Carlson in the future, has played for Hunter and would fit right in with his system.

First round pick will likely be in the top 5 (Grigorenko, Galchenyuk, etc).

Why does Montreal do this?

Ovechkin clearly needs a change of scenery. He has the potential to be a top 3 player in the league.

Flame away but please don't lock.

This will be locked, guaranteed, as all Ovechkin and Crosby ones are before long. That said, OV won't be traded, and I suspect most fans wouldn't want him on their team as he appears lazy and unmotivated, and makes more money than the mint. Not to mention they'd have to gut a good part of their team to fit that contract, limiting how much of an upgrade he would be.

Pass.

I realize that this has the potetial to be locked, but I am not trolling and I am asking this as a serious question. IMHO Ovechkin has reached a tradeable point in his career. Last year I would have said "No, this is just a blip", but his play continues to decline and if it is going to happen this would be as good as a time as any for washington

As stated above, I understand he has value beyond on-ice product, but hockey wise his value is at an all time low, and I suspect many Habs fans might even balk at this trade.

So why would we trade him?
Im sure our GM would be more than happy not to, regardless of his value.

Exactly to the bolded. So why would any GM gut their team (in terms of both players/prospects/picks, and in terms of clearing room for the salary) for a declining, uninterested, selfish, lazy player that makes nearly 10 million dollars?

OV and Crosby on the same team would be a BAD idea if they hate each other anywhere near as much as is rumoured...

NHL GMs don't sell low on face-of-the-franchise superstars that are worth more than their contracts alone in terms of marketing. He's still about as untouchable as he ever was and will continue to be for quite a bit longer.

Do.Not.Want.Ovechkin....I'd rather keep Staal, Despres, Tangradi, 1st/3rd then give it up for him.

No, he's not available, and yes, that makes value of threads pointless.

Don't these threads normally get locked up in a matter of minutes?

Next to Sid, OV is probably the face of the NHL. Anyone with a half decent business sense does not trade him for any reason, regardless of how he plays. If he loses his star appeal then that's another thing, but I doubt that happens anytime soon.

I truthfully don't see this thread leading to anything in the positive nature. As it was already stated Washington's face is Ovechkin, which typically means these value of threads won't work out. Going to go ahead and shut it down.
