Yes, let's get Andy Sutton to take penalties and suspensions to our already brilliant power play.

Greene isn't going anywhere.

Flames still think they're in it, so they won't sell.

I know from living there the fans certainly don't think that way

EDIT: As well a piece would go the other way, they can't score... that's where we would come in.

That mofo can clear the crease.

Marek Zidlicky ($4,000,000 -- through 2012-2013)
would be awesome, seen him play for national team only but he would help a lot and he is great on PP

Nope. From what I've seen and heard he's a shell of his former self. The complete opposite defender of what we need.

Zidlicky is awful. He was getting benched, and the Wild lives and dies on special teams.

I wouldn't write Zidlicky off just because of a bad skid. I don't think the guy just turned into a pumpkin after 6+ years of getting it done at the NHL level. It's a buy low situation for a guy who might need a "change of scenery." I wouldn't be surprised if he could be had for a 3rd or even a 4th round pick. I'd certainly take that risk.

If Holmgren/Laviolette have any intent for this team to go on any type of legitimate playoff run then Holmgren needs to acquire TWO defensemen.

First of all, the Lilja signing was a bad one and he shouldn't be in the top 6.
Second, Gustafsson has an NHL future but he isn't ready.
Third, Bourdon has struggled of late and serves the eam much better as the 7th D rather than a regular in the top 6.

Most importantly, this team desperately needs a big physical defensemen who can clear the porch and sure up the PK. They also need a defensemen who can get a point shot through and bolster the PP. Its ashame but when Pronger went down we lost both things (and so much more) in one player.

I still hold out hope that JVR is traded for JJ or Schenn, and then we move a pick and possibly prospect for a rental like Allen, Gill, Grossman, Sutton, Souray, Oduya, etc.

JJ and one of Allen/Gill/Grossman/Sutton
OR
Schenn and one of Souray/Oduya

If we can't get some one that could end up being a #1 defenseman I think we should go after Bryan Allen.

Yeah, here's a smart idea. Bring in another neanderthal like Sutton so he can take even more penalties...

You guys seriously think a 6'5 d-man will magically cure this teams defensive issues by clearing the crease? Most of the problems are coming from positioning (by our VETERAN d-men), rather than rookies. It's the system, not the players that are guilty.

Like I aid earlier...that mofo can clear the crease. And is a guy opposing forwards need to look over their shoulder for. We need a dman like that to be physical and help shut teams down. He would be a good option.

Do you seriously think the players are executing the system as it's intended?

I'm sure the system calls for 5 guys to stare at the puck, have 2 stand right next to each other, while not covering anybody, with another behind the net. Meanwhile, someone is left un-covered on the back door. Perfect execution of the system I'm sure.

That will cost you at least two or three 2nd rounders, and a couple 3rd rounders. Are you really willing to give that up just to lose in the first round of the playoffs?

I wouldn't mind adding Ladislav Smid and Cory Sarich.

For some reason I have this fear that Brett Lebda will be a Flyer. I thought it earlier today too when they said Howson was at the game.

Maybe Martinek?

I would not mind trading for Grossman. He keeps it simple. Nothing special but very simple.

Hell no to 35 year old Zidlicky with two more year at 4M a year. he is just as bad as Carle when it comes to brain cramps.

I think my approach would basically be to get the best guy I could for roughly a 3rd and a prospect. I don't think I want to give up much more than that. I also really don't want to move a 1st or 2nd because, well, I miss having them.

He is on the final year of his contract at a 3.85 hit (obviously would be prorated)
