I'd rather Carter over Nash. Nash's cap hit is ridiculous for what he brings to the table. Carter has a cap hit that would be perfect for us now and in the future, but he's signed for like 10 years. I guess we could always buy him out in like year 7 or something but still. Also, I'm a bit skeptical of his supposed attitude problems. I mean, the Flyers are full of dirt balls and they didn't even want him...

if you could ignore Rick Nash's cap hit...you'd be insane not to do that deal.

Yeah same I'd hate to see him and Dubi go. Dubi is ballsy and tough. Kreider has a bright future... and Nash's cap is ginormous

No. I like young talent and grit. Can't say it's not tempting. But still no

Unfortunately, even if we could fit the $7.8m next season, it'd very likely mean losing some of the core in two years.

just some food for thought...would you do...AA, Dubi, Kreider, McIlrath, Wolski, CT, and a first for Nash AND Carter?

im not giving any thought to the salary cap right now, just playing some scenarios through in my head.

could be highly disruptive to the chemistry of this team...but yowza...

Nash - Stepan - Gaborik
Carter - Richards - Callahan
Hagelin - Mitchell - Fedotenko
Rupp - Boyle - Prust

thats not a team that can win the championship...thats a team that, if it doesnt win a championship, should be drawn and quartered.

Rangers have Gabby, Cally and Hank locked up for 2 more seasons after this. It really wouldn't surprise me to see them roll the dice with someone like kreider in an effort to get the cup before all 3 are up for new contracts

No, because unless we plan on seceding from the NHL and starting our own league without a salary cap, we can't operate by not giving any thought to the salary cap.

He is paid A TON.

Nash is only 27 years old. He's scored 30 goals+ in 6 of his 8 seasons (prior to this year, which he is pretty much on pace for another 30 goal season). the 2 that he didnt....1 was his rookie year, the other he scored 27 in 75gp.

Nash is one of the biggest talents in the game...and the funny part is...despite his great numbers, you'd almost have to say his career has probably been a disappointment so far...thats how much talent the kid has.

Same here...but, I'm as big a fan of Kreider as there, I'm not even sure if I've reached the mancrush that SM has.

Well he plays on the blue jackets. But I'm not prepared to pay & million-plus for him and then give up part of our core and top prospect

Rangers could do that deal today and it would fit into the cap.

problem is after this year.

I do that package for Nash or Carter. Gotta take the proven NHLer over youth and Dubi hasn't been consistent ever. I see Nash excelling in a secondary role as opposed to being the go to guy like he is in Columbus. Cap hit is ridiculous though but who knows what the new CBA brings.

is dubi part of our core though?

dont get me wrong...love the kid...but is he a guy that you just wouldnt trade at all?

Callys value to this team goes FAR beyond his numbers (which are great btw). but Dubi...he's a good forechecker, puts up some goals and points here and there, a good skater, good hitter, plays a 2 way game....hardly irreplaceable.

frankly id say Hagelin is on the verge of passing him on the internal depth chart in just about half a season.

If Kreider is moved for Nash I will be VERY upset. There is a salary cap. Players like Kreider are how a team stays competitive for a long time.

Also, that would be ~21-22 million of the cap in (3) forwards. Plus Hank, that's 29 million in (4) players.

yeah, i agree. a very scary amount of money to take on.

like i said, much more interested in Carter...could trade for him w/o giving up Kreider (imho) and his salary hit is so much easier to take.

I think problem comes not next year but the year after. Running some quick #s on capgeek, swapping out Dubi for Nash and signing players to IMO reasonable contracts, it's possible to field an almost unaltered team next season. It's when AA, Hags, Stepan, McD and Sauer all hit RFA in 13-14 that the problems hit

Callahan is Callahan. He's among the best we got. I just never had a good feeling about trading Dubinsky.
