I agree with you about Carter>Nash w/ contract but for all of Nash's "talent" Im not impressed.
Nash has scored more goals than Carter.

Nash:277, Carter 193...but if you go goals/82 games played (to factor in the fact that Nash has played more games) it comes out to this:

Nash: 35.16 G/82
Carter: 32.04 G/82

Fairly comparable. Then again, Nash hasn't played with the Talent that Carter has played with, so there is some question as whether Nash would be a 45ish guy here or not. You really dont know with either guy. They both have some question marks to them.

But Carter is cheaper...by a ton.

thats pretty much what I said minus the foul language when reading that tweet. Ive been quietly thinking about the situation, and doing a "who would I rather have" in my head all night. Adding DStep/Hags is saying, just give me one of your best players on top of that other package as well. F that.

I dont think they were saying to add one of Stepan/Hagelin to the other package. They're saying that one of them would have to be added to A package with Duby. I would assume something like Duby, Stepan/Hagelin, and a draft pick. Not Duby, Stepan, Kreider and a 1st.

Either way I dont do either one.

I probably misread it, but even if I did not its still as you said - either way I dont do either one.

No to Crosby (injuries). No to Kessel (not quite dominant enough). No to Datsyuk (age). No to Parise (free agency). Let's put it this way: I wouldn't feel comfortable giving up that package for anyone we could actually get for it.

One coul probably argue Ville Leino>Rich Nash using stats only.

But Carter is most def a player in the Malone/Penner mold. Can put up stats and do some things, but far from complete.

Rich Nash is up there with guys like Stamkos and AO in talent overall. But he is going downhill from being on a loosing team forever. Could someone "save" him?

But his natural talent is undeniable. I've seen him on big ice in WCHs when "everyone" been there and ge outshines them all, he is not just a PF. He is a complete player.

Agreed. That's a bit too much.

However, given the young core Rangers have on D, Erixon is very much expendable IMO, and a nice valuable piece to add in a trade if Rangers are about to make a splash.

Anyone think maybe the team knows something about Kreider and his commitment to being a Ranger? There were some very low rumblings when he decided to stay in school if you recall.

I don't do that trade otherwise. I'm a huge fan of Kreider. People thought Gabby and Hagelin are fast? Just wait till you see this kid. And they want Dubi plus a 1st in a fairly deep draft? I get that we'll be drafting later in the first because of our standing but Kreider breaks this deal to be honest.

  • No to adding Kreider/Stepan for Nash
  • No to Carter altogether (The Lights of Broadway would eat him alive)

Nash for Dubinsky, one of Thomas/Miller/McNasty/Fasth, 1st rounder is tempting - not sure if I would do it with regards to the cap though. Lets say for sake of discussion we do make this trade.

This deal plus adding a rental piece or two (another fwd & one more D) would make us huge contenders this year (& also next year imo)....
It would also amazingly all fit capwise if Wolski goes the other way in another deal (along with dealing Bickel & Woywitka is also traded/waived)

Our available deadline prorated space is $6.959.621

Subtractions
Dubinsky $4.200.000
Wolski $3.800.000
Woywitka $650.000
Bickel $600.000
TOTAL = $9.250.000

Add Sauers $820.000 overage on LTIR (assuming he is done for the year) and we are releasing $10.070.000 in annual space. Add that to the prorated deadline space & we can take on $17.029.621 in space at the deadline

Additions
Nash $7.800.000
Kubina $3.850.000
One of Doan ($4,55 M) / Hemsky ($4,1M) / Selänne ($4 M) / Kotitsyn ($3,25 M) / Whitney ($3 M) / Påhlsson (2,65 M) / Gaustad ($2,3 M)/Ruutu ($3,8 M) / Moen ($1,5 M)

The total here would actually be within the cap = MAXIMUM HIT = $16,200,000 - with Doan. Using Sauers cap overage is not even necessary then (he could hoefully return).
Not that I think we will ever make three such big deals (or likely have the assets to get them all done), but I am just pointing out the possibilities cap wise...

Another more realistic option is possibly to add Smyth ($6.250.000) plus Gil on D /instead of Kubina/ ($2,25 M). This together with adding Nash would also fit (without Sauers LTIR money) capwise.

Let´s say something like:
  • Wolski + 2nd to Edmonton for Smyth
  • Bickel + 3rd to Montreal for Gil
Zuccarello is then kept as a PO spare (when the cap hit is irrelevant)

A PO lineup like:

Nash - Stepan - Gaborik
Smyth - Richards - Cally
Mitchell - AA - Hagelin
Feds/Rupp - Boyle - Prust

McD - Girardi
Staal - Gil (Sauer)
MDZ - Strålman
Eminger

does not look too bad imo...

Next year (if we could manage to keep Kreider) looks pretty exciting too:

Kreider - Stepan - Gaborik
Nash - Richards - Cally
Hagelin - AA - xx (Zuccarello resigned?/Mitchell/Thomas/Miller/UFA/trade)
Rupp/Feds(?) - Boyle - Prust

McD - Girardi
Staal - MDZ
Erixon - Sauer
Strålman

It is after that it gets tricky...
I am a bit pickled after last night still though

Crumbs Garroich is a clown

Timmy P in Philly tweets Howson and his crew are attending the Rangers-Flyers game

Tim "speculates" Carter to the Rangers. Turns out Howson spent more time talking to Holmgren than Sather. Watch Carter get traded back to Philly.

Quote:
3 people/scouts - including Scott Howson _ from CBJ at Rangers-Flyers today. Carter to NYR?
https://twitter.com/#!/tpanotchCSN/s...70945352929280

Crumbs sees the tweet and responds

Quote:
@tpanotchCSN I wrote last Sunday Rangers have interest in Nash. Surely somebody denied it.
https://twitter.com/#!/SunGarrioch/s...78001476698112

Then he writes about the Nash rumor

Every week,Garrioch links the Rangers with a new player.

I once asked John Dellapina(when he still covered the team for the Daily News)about Garrioch. How come Garrioch is always linking player after player to the Rangers and he never has these rumors? Not it so many words Dellapina said he won't report anything without trying to get confirmation that its true and the Ottawa Sun has a different policy when it comes to printing rumors/speculation. Kevin Allen of USA Today won't wrote print rumors.

I once asked Garrioch about his style. He linked Drury to Ottawa as part of the Heatley trade. Drury was a NMC and he is not moving to Ottawa. How come Garrioch didn't mention the NMC? He responded with a sarcastic note.

Nash still wants to stay in Columbus

Quote:
After chatting with those who would know, I do not believe reports of #CBJ LW Rick Nash being unhappy and wanting out of Columbus.

Is Nash frustrated? Absolutely. Any pro would be. But nothing has changed in his relationship w #CBJ.

Kreider would stay in school another year and begin working on his PHD rather than sign with Columbus. I love Bruce referring to Kreider as a C. Same thing with Duby. He hasn't played center in 3 years. Kreider has never played center. Both wings but not center.

Garrioch writes about the CBA having a buyout which doesn't count against the cap. There was a compliance buyout period in this current. More than 1 buyout could have been completed. Garrioch is a clown. Do the league sources quoted in the article realize there was a compliance buyout period in this CBA?

Can we put Garrioch in the Eklund category? Wow, this was just awful. And, leave to Rotter and TPF to make it even worse. February 27 cannot get here fast enough.

GM Glen Sather is not expected to break the bank since the Rangers appear built for long-term success with a solid core, great goaltending and youth. This also is a tight locker room, so a trade that risks the team’s chemistry probably isn’t worth it to management.

Leonard mentioned Kubina as a possibility. Righty shot. Free agent this summer. Does Gill skate well enough for the Rangers? All of their D can skate. No mobility issues.

Big no to Gill. Slow Dman. We don't need that. That's a recipe for being benched in the third period, leaving G and McD with the same amount of minutes.

My thoughts are that you need to change your username

But seriously, I would like to see them stay put unless the deal is so good we can't refuse.

I really don't think Gill has enough foot speed to be considered by us as a viable rental option. Maybe a rental of Kostitsyn? Not exactly enamored him either, tbh.
