Take a deep breath...

This team has exceeded expectations so far. Going into the season, most of us had no idea how good this team would be. I was unsure as well. But I don't think any of us pegged us being this good so far.

The Flyers have skated 10 rookie skaters so far this year, went through a major overhaul this past off-season that shipped out 2 core players in Richards and Carter, has lost its captain for the season, and has endured numerous amounts of concussions/injuries to pretty key players.

This team is now tied with Pittsburgh for 3rd most points in the East. They have had some trouble lately but maybe it's just a cold streak. Hell, every team goes through one for the most part. The Bruins haven't really been playing well lately either.

Maybe Homer will get some D help at the deadline. Hell, if Bryz can start playing better and this team can get relatively healthy, they could make some noise.

Ya gotta believe.

Basically agreed, but they have some major shortcomings in the defensive corps that have been exposed in the absence of Pronger.

Hal Gill should be at the top of the wish-list.

I thought it was 11 rookies? And even with a healthy forward core and a healthy goalie core, still doesn't help the fact our defense is not only wildly inconsistent, but they act as if they have no system.

Gill and Grossman.

Grossman's cap hit fits. Why do people like him so much?

He's big and keeps things simple. However even Mez and Coburn has more hits than him, yet Grossman is bigger than Mez.

The team is fine. Everyone needs to chill. They aren't exactly Cup contenders as it stands right now (and certainly haven't played like it the last few games), but if they make a couple moves I think we're looking at a contender.

Im not even panicking right now. This fan base is so bi-polar anymore or at least on here it's crazy. Someone actually mentioned trading Giroux. nothing else needs to be said.

They do need to start winning games... They have won 10 in the last 23 games (since winter classic).

We continue to do this or even go .500, we will be dropping places fast. Each season, there is a 9th place+ team that all of a sudden excels in the stretch and ussually takes over a current Top 8 team. Lets just hope thats not us.

90% of the fun of following hockey is the ecstasy/agony of following the team too closely and overreacting.

If I wanted to have a measured, monotone reaction to failure, I would be Bill Meltzer.

Yeah and if they do better they could wind up with the top seed. There is plenty of hockey to be played.

Coburn and Carle are awful. It's pathetic how these two continue to play disgustingly awful D. Coburn has regressed badly and Carle was never good. Meszaros pretty much sucks too.

Without pronger, this D is bottom 10 in the league easy.

With the exception of that weird loss against the Islanders, we've lost against three GREAT teams. I haven't actually watched the games, so I guess those of you who have have more insight into what's troubling us right now (the defense issues and all), but let's not panic at the slightest show of adversity.

Shows how fast expectations can drop if one little piece is lost and everything keeps faling apart.
What was once considered "one of the best defenses in the league" by parts of the fanbase (not me) is now just a bunch of scrubs.

Realistically, this D was Pronger and Timonen plus some glue guys to skate with them.
Coburn and Mesz are reclamation projects, Carle is pretty much a specialist who is lacking basic skills, and the rest are borderline NHLers.

Remember, the Flyers are a team of the Keystone State.

I've been prepared for this team to do the usual song and dance for about a month now. They'll do their thing, get to the second round, and crap out as usual.

My only surprise is the lack of hate that Jagr is getting. Everyone said when we signed him, "what happens in the second half of the year when he gets disinterested?"

Well, when was the last time Jagr scored a goal? Feels like forever.

I don't like that they often seem disinterested in taking care of business defensively. And I don't mean personnel, I mean often they look clueless and nonchalant.

I was hoping for some stellar goalkeeping.

The droughts from key players have been disconcerting.

I think it gets worse as rookies peter out.

well, there's two kinds of losses

a hard fought loss and a terrible loss

I can't remember the last time the Flyers had a hard fought loss

which is sad

I have no problem with this team losing, as long as they put in a good effort

but when they lose because of simple blown defensive coverages and stupid plays (ie: anything Carle does), it's a joke

Jagr is the least of this team's concerns and worries right now
