UFA, RFA & Prospects

When Plekanec returns in about two weeks (as per his website) we'll have two extra forwards, not counting Perezhogin. On top of that, we have a few guys that could make the team out of camp next fall - Latendresse, Emelin, Lapierre et all. Also, given that Gainey has said he wishes the team to concentrate on the youth of the club, which of the following UFA and RFA (those with an * besides their names) do you least expect to be offered a contract this summer?

Which of our prospects do you think will make the team for next season?

Only these three: Sunstrom, Vandermeer, Dagenais

I didn't vote Ribeiro because you don't release a RFA like that, it's better to sign then deal him to get something in return. That said, I have a feeling he'll be gone before the trade deadline.

Bulis is very useful to the team and will get an offer.

Streit as well, plus he should be cheap.

Koivu is the heart & soul of the team and there will definitely be an effort to keep him.

As an RFA, Huet should be kept as well, as long as he is still relatively cheap. Can always deal him or Danis if need be. Or deal Theodore if that becomes the best option.

Bouillon, Komi have a place on the team and are RFA. You don't release RFA like them anyway, you trade if they have no place on your team (but I believe they will still be useful to the Habs unless there are trades or signings to bring in some D).

Bottom line for RFAs, you don't release them unless they really blow and you have no use for them. Otherwise you sign and/or deal them in a trade.

Sundstrom, Dagenais, Vandermeer, Huet.

Huet has been good but we have Danis coming up ready for backup duty. I don't really know where Huet fits in, he's been playing exceptionally, there's no denying it, but it seems we have a bit of a logjam in goal.

I think Huet might actually be traded to a team like Pittsburgh at the trade deadline.

Chipchura shouldn't part of the "et all"...he deserves to have his name mentioned.

I agree but think he'll probably play AHL before NHL, and seing as he dosen't hit 20 years old untill the end of the season, would probably report to the Bulldogs next year. I'm big on Chipchura but a year in the AHL would help him, I think... we have far too many good forward prospects right now.

Here's the list of UFA's, RFA's

Steve Begin, (UFA)

Jonathan Aitken, (III)
Francis Bouillon, (III)
Jan Bulis, (III)
Pierre Dagenais, (III)
Cristobal Huet, (III)
Saku Koivu, (III)
Jeff Paul, (III)
Mark Streit, (III)
Niklas Sundstrom, (III)
Peter Vandermeer, (III)

Yann Danis, (VI)

Aaron Archer, (II)
Jean-Phillipe Cote, (II)
Jonathan Ferland, (II)
Chris Higgins, (II)
Raitis Ivanis, (II)
Mike Komisarek, (II)
Olivier Michaud, (II)
Duncan Milroy, (II)
Garth Murray, (II)
Alexander Perezhogan, (II)
Mike Ribeiro, (II)
Michael Ryder, (II)

Begin- has a team option I believe so he'll be back for sure.

Aitken- might be resigned for hamilton

Francis Bouillon- resign

Jan Bulis- should be resigned unless he doesn't want to come back

Pierre Dagenais- gone imo

Cristobal Huet- real tough call, Danis could take his spot

Saku Koivu- sounds like he'll be back

Jeff Paul- gone hopefully

Mark Streit- can't say at this point but I could see him resigned

Niklas Sundstrom- another tough call, but could be back, smart veteran player but wouldn't be shocked to see him gone

Peter Vandermeer- I'd resign him to a two way, decent vet/leader in Hamilton

Yann Danis- resigned for sure

Aaron Archer- resigned

Jean-Phillipe Cote- resigned

Jonathan Ferland- resigned

Chris Higgins- resigned

Raitis Ivanis- should be resigned

Mike Komisarek- resigned

Olivier Michaud- tough call, could be back depending on who's brought back. Only Theodore and Halak are currently under contract for next year.

Duncan Milroy- I'd resign him for Hamilton but he's really disappointing. Was benched the other night. Not good for a 3rd year pro.

Garth Murray- must be brought back

Alexander Perezhogan- resigned

Mike Ribeiro- resigned

Michael Ryder- resigned

Then you got a bunch of players that have to be signed. Chipchura, Greg Stewart, Loic Lacasse, Alex Dulac-Lemelin, Jon Gleed, Konstantin Korneev, Tomas Linhart. plus maybe all Euro draft picks up to the '02 draft.

Chipchura, Stewart will be signed for sure imo. The rest I have my doubts. I think Aubin will be signed although he doesn't have to be. I would like to see Gleed signed and maybe Dulac not sure about Lacasse. You can never have enough goalies, and these guys would likely be in Long Beach anyways. Linhart and Korneev I don't expect to ever see although I would like to see what they could do.

exactly what I was thinking... I voted the same

Ribero, no matter what's been said about this guy, you can't just let him go and get nothing in return... the guy had a huge talent and great passing potential... the only problem I think is the work ethic...

Sundstrom is a good PK guy and seems to show more offense recently but still, with the new rules and the more offensive minded league, you cannot have two defensive lines as in the past years and Sundstrom isn't a 25 goal guy...

Dagenais will be gone... as CJ was saying: he's not fast enough and we can't keep a guy on the bench and use him only in shootouts... this is not baseball

And as for Vandermeere, well we're not using him and I don't think he will be back, it's just a feeling
