I don't think it does. Not saying it's not a factor in any shape of form, but if this team was actually successful in the last 6 years, on and off the ice, then I would agree that lack of funding would be a huge concern. But they haven't. Attendance and arena atmosphere isn't as good as he would want(which is the Devils' fault and yours too, Zach), the team has done nothing great since the lockout, marketing's still a problem, etc. Those factors can't be simply ignored when it comes to his decision imo.

If they make it in and somehow go on a deep run the chances are higher that he stays.
I agree with this.

If Chambers really wants to sell his part of the team, how would letting one of the most valuable parts of it walk away help?

Also as I was reading this thread I had a thought as to why Lou hasn't talked contract yet. What if he doesn't want a public rejection of the contract to hurt Parise's trade value. If other GM's don't know he wants out then maybe that avoids low-ball offers. If Parise isn't traded then Lou can make an offer after the deadline.

my question is....am I crazy/making this up, or right around the holidays, Zach had said Lou and his agent had had "encouraging talks" about the contract?

and now its "no talks have started?"

Wasn't that Matty Loughlin saying that Zach told him about "encouraging talks"?

I think this a prime example of Devils' status quo. One day we just might hear a contract is signed. We won't know if they're talking or not.

How come there are so many contradicting articles? That leads me to believe that nobody has a damn clue what they're talking about.

That's certainly possible. He might want to wait until after the deadline so the possibility of a trade is entirely off the table.

One of the best points regarding this situation is the argument made by Saugus.

If talking contract is a distraction for the player himself, how is answering 3654968454 questions about the same topic not as distracting... or more.

The way he answered that chump on MSG between periods when playing against the Rags a week ago showed that he was getting pretty ****ing tired about it all.

If Zach did say that clearly the wall has gone up since then

Either way, I'm tired of parsing every little thing Zach says. Fact is, he's not getting traded now and won't be. Lou just does not believe in trading for the future when you can do something now.

He wasn't pissed about the question from that ****** but it has to get tiresome answering the same question time and time and time again. If it's not from our reporters, it's the opposing team's reporters, it's TSN, it's Sportsnet, it's NHL network, it's the NY post, etc, etc, etc.

I was just trying to say that not talking contract extension with your GM might not be as big of a distraction then all those questions he has to answer time and time again.

I have to conclude that Lou is waiting until after the trade deadline, so the trade speculation goes away. Until then, Parise just needs to deal with it.

Going back to Zach's comments about the Rock, I think he's spot on. There is no buzz in there as opposed to other arenas like in Montreal or NYC. I just can't explain it. The fans look disinterested. It is sad actually, and this coming from a devils fan.

I don't buy that at all. After all, the easiest and most painless way to make the speculation go away is getting a contract done.

Just thinking about makes me want to cry. If we do lose Zach, we better not pull the same move we did when Martin left, meaning we shouldn't throw $$$ at average/above average players on long term deals.

Keep the money/cap space and try to land a solid blueliner via a trade.

I attended my first ever NJD game in Jersey this year when they played the Habs and Zach had a penalty shot with under a minute left to play in the 3rd. I swear to god, I was snoozing all game long. The atmosphere was brutal and I think there was as many, if not more, Habs fans then Devils fans.

I remember Palmieri scoring to make it 2-1 and I didn't even stand up cause I was half a sleep.

Please don't ever put Montreal and the Garden in the same league again... That's just insane.
