Not sure if he's framing this as a "makes sense" type of thing or an actual rumor, but he's apparently mentioned it a few times now.

It actually does...make sense...for both teams, IMO.

Chicago wouldn't do that.

Even if this were to happen, which is a big IF, it'd happen in the off-season. These type of trades just don't happen during the season, let alone on or near trade deadline day.

Makes no sense at all for CHI. They trade a great young player on a good contract for a (slightly) overpaid goalie who is struggling?

Buffalo would take that and run while yelling "no trade backsies"

Would make a lot of sense if Miller was having a better season. Although whether that's just because Buffalo has been awful this year or he's slipping is up to debate.

I think if they were smart, they would. They've got offensive stars, all on longterm deals--Kane, Toews, Hossa...Pirri, Saad, Morin, Shaw all coming up. What they don't have is a true number one goaltender, with Salak being the closest.

Ryan Miller has already one the Vezina, carried team USA on his back almost to a gold-medal, and despite a rough season on a bad team, should be considered a franchise goaltender. His value is, all things equal, greater than or at least equal to Kane's, in my opinion.

I think Kyper's starting to go off the deep end.

If Miller were having a better season, I'm not sure it would make sense. It's not like Kane is having a great season, himself.

Why not? Value is fair to me...

Something like ...Miller + Stafford for Kane + Crawford

Any takers?

Miller is struggling, but, Kane isn't playing up to his potential either. 3 goals in his last 23 games, 12 goals total on the season.

I don't think Buffalo would have interest in Kane anyways.

I sincerely disagree with that. When have those types of trades happen in the offseason?

Thornton trade, Stewart/Johnson trade, Phaneuf trade all happened mid season.

If anything trades happen anytime. This idea of "they only happen in the offseason" is wrong.

Goalie's in general have a much lower value than elite skaters.

Everyone calls Kyper an idiot or "he's losing his touch", but last I remember, he smoked damn near everyone last year during the trade deadline.

Really? Buffalo would love Kane. Good Buffalo boy coming back home. The team loves the stupid local boy thing.

Smaller player who plays bigger than he really is? That's basically what Buffalo as a whole gets excited about (Gerbe is the current phenom, Briere before him)

Also, even in his bad season he'd still be 2nd on the Sabres in scoring. The Sabres badly need offense.

I take this if I'm the Hawks.

But as mentioned above, maybe add some other pieces in there with Crawford involved for it to make more sense.

Kane + Crawford for
Miller + Kassian?

Wild guess. But Crawford would have to move to Buf and Chi would need a solid forward/prospect coming back

(if this were actually going to happen)

Trading of a #1 goaltender. Name me last time a legit #1 was traded mid-season.

Meh, I'd do it if I was Chicago. Kane is an elite scorer, but you don't just find elite goaltenders. It makes sense for Buffalo who have Enroth and would get a hometown star. I always say build from the net out and I think Miller would be great in Chicago. I assume Buffalo would have to add though.
