I would not be sitting on that couch. I'd be halfway home bobbing and weaving through traffic at 160mph. But yeah it's **** like that which really makes me wonder how people can be super into Japanese stuff.

Yep, I've never been a huge fan of anime or Japanese films. They just don't do anything for me. Not that I have a problem with people who enjoy it but it never really caught my interests.

Personally its a couple of things. The animation style bugs me for some reason (big eyes, two-frame animated mouths, everyone always yelling...). Plus the stories are always heavily overcomplicated messes. They follow 3 themes only it seems...

1) Humanity vs Technological progress
2) Superhuman battles
3) Robots fighting robots

The bad guys are always depicted as often as possible as abusing women. Also every freaking story seems to involve saving the world somehow.

I actually find them exhausting to try and sit through.

Everyone also has superpowers. Even in sports anime. I remember seeing one where it was about football I think and people had like dragons and lasers and machine guns or something. It was nuts.

Its definitely interesting. There is some really good stuff and some really crappy/weird stuff. I am not an expert by any means but some of the anime movies that I have seen that I really liked.

Don't recall the "bus" in The Cat Returns.

Kiki's delivery service is fun.

Porcosso is different (unrequited love).

Spirited Away is nice.

Princess Monokokee may have inspired Stephanie Myers (Twilight).

Castle in the Sky is fantastic (in the "fantasy" meaning).

Oh man the Totoro movie was great. That's the best movie to watch when sleep deprived. The big cat things are hilarious. I just remember me and half the rowing team bursting into laughter everytime the cat thing was on screen.
