Uhhh, no. And did you watch the video? It has graphics and everything!

And also a perfectly logical explanation.

No I did not. The only difference between the two hits is whoever Rinaldo hit wasn't looking but was admiring his pass.

Both players left their feet as contact was made.

This is simply a reputation suspension.

Has anybody mentioned pro-Wings conspiracy yet?

Here is the Krownwall hit. Labeled as a legal body check even though it is the exact same kind of hit as the one Rinaldo threw.

Doesn't surprise me in this day and age of reputation penalties and SD, that they gave Rinadlo the double whammy and Krownwall got away scott free.

what a crock of ****..

Rinaldo skates dont leave the ice until contact.. with that much energy of course he ****en leaves the ice..

does shanny think you can hit strait into the boards at that speed and not get moved ???

im starting to HATE Shanny and his questionable rulings.

Great comments.

He did leave his feet prior to contact.

In fact, he jumped at Ericsson, which is the reason why he hit him in the face.

He's 5 inches shorter than Ericsson, and Ericsson was straight up, not leaning at all, so the only way he could hit him in the head is by jumping at him.

And yes, past history is one of the criteria used to determine if there should be additional discipline.

That was explained times and times again...

Lame. It was a minor no more no less. This league is a joke. Might as well start playing in dresses.

Meh I don't think it deserves a suspension, but I think he did jump into it, it was a tiny bit late, and it seemed like he brushed past Ericsson's chin a little though I don't think that was intended.

Not really seeing what makes this any more than a 2 minute penalty. It's really frustrating how the league insists on aboding by supposed reputations even when said players haven't lived up to them

I hope Zac learns his lesson from this.

If he's going to get two games for a clean shoulder check, while gliding, then he might as well keep his legs moving, really power into the hit and kill him next time. Make it worth his while.

A clean shoulder check while gliding? Starting at the blue line, he takes about 5 or 6 strides, glides for about a second, and jumps into him.

He definitely deserved a penalty but I don't think the suspension was warranted at all. Had he made contact with Ericsson's head then that would be a different story.

Rinaldo has a pretty lengthy suspension history; he was suspended 4 times in the AHL last year and in his last 2 seasons in the OHL, he got 2 different suspensions of at least 6 games apiece (a 6-game suspension and a 12-game suspension).

Shanahan is a ****ing moron. Moore's hit on Fedotenko last week was worse then this and he didnt even get fined. Is every Rinaldo penalty going to be looked at now? freakin gay.

i honestly wonder how bias can so significantly affect people's eyesight. kronwall's skates barely even left the ice. rinaldo's skates were clearly off the ice as he delivered the hit. they even freeze it in the video and explain that rinaldo's shoulders are at equal height with a guy who's a few inches taller than him!

Rinaldo lined Ericsson up on the play and hit him as he turned his head after making a pass behind the Detroit net.

Rinaldo was assessed a charging minor on the play.

------

******** call on the suspension! I think it was a great hit as MANY others do, Red Wings fans alike.
I honestly did not think it was even a penalty. If it was, it was borderline and the call on the ice was sufficient. Complete joke. What is the NHL coming to?

yup i even questioned the penalty when it happened. looked like a borderline call. Gonna have to keep my comments on this on our own board, because the stuff going on the main board on the subject is borderline retarded with some of the comments.
there were some other calls that irked me in the game. most notably the Simmonds matching roughing minors near the end of the 1st.

I love that Shanahan called it a "high hit". Rinaldo is 5'11 and Ericsson is 6'4. Any hit would look high. What a moron.

Moore was fined 2.5K. Shanny said Fedotenko hit himself in the face. The whole thing is hysterical.

It was a BS call during the game and this is a BS ruling. How about keeping your head up and not admiring your pass?

I'm willing to bet that Shanny told Rinaldo that if he does anything that he has to talk to him about in the near future that he would be suspended. The slew foot combined with this is why he got it. Purely a reputation suspension. No way that any other non-agitator/enforcer type player gets suspended for this hit. He hit him in the chest with his shoulder. You could argue that it's a charging call but that is it!

I'm not sure I'm following you...

Wouldn't it be the opposite of what you're implying. Rinaldo is 5 inches shorter, so he CAN'T get high on Ericsson unless 1) he jumps or 2) Ericsson isn't fully upright.
