I made a good deal with the gf. I won't have to watch anime, and I promised not to listen metal when she is around.

Happy Valentine's Day, since it's already past midnight around here.

My wife loved country music. Instead of making a deal with her I just slowly brainwashed her into hating country music

Na, moving to quickly for her I would think. Gotta take it slow she's like a scared bird.

And Mafoofoo, killed vending machines are crazy and all, but try watching a twisted love story about a psychotic Japanese girl who tortures guys she likes and makes them eat their own vomit, while you're sitting on the couch next to a crazy Japanese girl.

I would not be sitting on that couch. I'd be halfway home bobbing and weaving through traffic at 160mph. But yeah it's **** like that which really makes me wonder how people can be super into Japanese stuff.

Yep, I've never been a huge fan of anime or Japanese films. They just don't do anything for me. Not that I have a problem with people who enjoy it but it never really caught my interests.

Personally its a couple of things. The animation style bugs me for some reason (big eyes, two-frame animated mouths, everyone always yelling...). Plus the stories are always heavily overcomplicated messes. They follow 3 themes only it seems...

1) Humanity vs Technological progress
2) Superhuman battles
3) Robots fighting robots

The bad guys are always depicted as often as possible as abusing women. Also every freaking story seems to involve saving the world somehow.

I actually find them exhausting to try and sit through.

Everyone also has superpowers. Even in sports anime. I remember seeing one where it was about football I think and people had like dragons and lasers and machine guns or something. It was nuts.

Its definitely interesting. There is some really good stuff and some really crappy/weird stuff. I am not an expert by any means but some of the anime movies that I have seen that I really liked.

Princess Mononake
Spirited Away
Castle in the Sky

Miyazaki, **** yeah.

<------

(If you're looking for a laugh, see The Cat Returns. You'll wonder if you're on drugs while watching it.)

Hayao Miyazaki made one of my favorite movies ever: Princess Mononoke.

Thought avi was from My Neighbor Totoro.

Don't recall the "bus" in The Cat Returns.

Kiki's delivery service is fun.

Porcosso is different (unrequited love).

Spirited Away is nice.

Princess Monokokee may have inspired Stephanie Myers (Twilight).

Castle in the Sky is fantastic (in the "fantasy" meaning).

Etc.

Psh. I love Princess Mononoke, but the real gems are Howl's Moving Castle and Nausicaa.

Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind!
Haven't watched Howl's moving castle

I thought Castle in the Sky was a good one too.

Oh man the Totoro movie was great. That's the best movie to watch when sleep deprived. The big cat things are hilarious. I just remember me and half the rowing team bursting into laughter everytime the cat thing was on screen.
