D-Options for the Rangers.

So what do we have down in Hartford or oversea?

who would you rather see in the line up next year?
staal,baranka,pck or rachunek?
or maybe all?

id kick roszival out of the lineup for any of these three guys

Rachunek refuses to play in NY........Staal will probably end up on the team as another year in juniors won't do his development much good and he's too young for the AHL. Baranka I could see floating inbetween the Rags and the pack, Pock I think will make the team, he's made alot of himself down with the Pack this year.

The best thing about next year's defense is NO Poti.

Staal is the best bet from within our system to make the team. Pock has got the offensive part of his game down pat--still working on the defensive part--he might be getting a chance soon to show us what he can do if kaspar is out. Rullier is more of a vet and more the physical presence and might get the call instead of Pock (barring a trade) but long term I don't see him as having much future here. Baranka is young and probably could use a little more weight and muscle--something he should work on during the off season. Lampman is at best going to be a third pairing guy but I don't think he's shown enough so far to warrant it with us and I'm not sure he's going to be around very much longer.
Liffiton is an interesting prospect to me as he could probably do just about everything that Strudwick is (minus the rookie mistakes) and add a little bit of speed. Girardi is not signed by us yet but since being recalled from the ECHL he's put up some nice numbers particularly a +15 in something like 25 games. Taylor has size and his skating and puck handling seem to have improved but I think he definitely needs more development.
Apart from them Sauer is a long shot for next year.

Rachuneck might want to play now because the rangers have been playing better.... If not trade him for D

Staal will be up next year... Pair him up with Tyutin

and the Rangers will probably sign a free agent Center like Richards and one of the 3 above names

For now you might see Pock called up if Kasper can't go. Hopefully NY won't bring back Poti and Rozsival next season, and can sign some D muscle.

I"d like to see Staal, Baranka, Lampman, Sauer, or Pock in there. TRADE Rachunek for a draft pick. He abandoned this team when he thought they'd be a bad team. Now that we have shown to be better I'd rather not give up ice time to younger players for a decent defenseman like Rachunek.

At the trade deadline every playoff team is looking for decent defensemen to create depth. If we could get a 2nd rounder + for Malakhov then why not something similar for Rachunek. I'd take just the 2nd rounder and run for the hills. Use it to trade up in the draft.

From what I have read, Staal is a lock. The rest will depend on a) what we see out of the current crop the rest of the way b) how the young players develop in hartford/juniors/ncaa and c) how they play in camp. Keep in mind, there will be some free agents on the market this year and I would be shocked if Sather does not sign at least one. Primarily a puck-moving dman. Tyutin seems like he has found his game, but I am not sure he is the type to move the puck up the ice or QB the power play.

The same thing he has been doing for most of his career, nothing. Except now he's not SUPPOSED to be doing anything.
