Larry Brooks: Palffy Headed West???

Take it with a grain of salt, it is Larry Brooks

Quote:
Phoenix GM Mike Barnett has informed Petr Nedved he's going to be traded, with one plugged-in source believing No. 93 might well be headed back to Pittsburgh in exchange for Zigmund Palffy. Nedved has one year at $2.356M remaining on his deal while Palffy, receiving interest from a handful of clubs of west, we hear, has two years at $4.5 per to go . . . Penguins are also looking to dump Mark Recchi ($2.28M next season), who, by all accounts has been a disruptive influence inside the room, surprise, surprise, surprise.

Ziggy is still my favorite player in the NHL, I really hope the Kings are one of those teams interested.

If Craig Patrick makes that deal, he's insane.

After the way he left from Pittsburgh, Nedved will never be in a Pens uni again.

Seriously, what's Ziggy worth? A 1st rounder?

I'd gladly welcome him back as a King, but not if we have to give up a prospect better than, say, Lehoux or Hogeboom. I hear Scott Parse's trade value is fairly high these days. :-)

We are not taking on any more payroll, so don't get your hopes up.

Brooks is an idiot. Remember "Mario Lemieux to the Rangers" a couple of years ago?

There's no sense for making a deal Palffy for an underachieving Nedved.
Palffy is the only offseason UFA signing who has produced (even if it's not what we expected from him).

The rumor is Gonchar for Nedved and Johnson.
Palffy could be traded, but for a D-man.

Give us a good defensive defenceman.

Change 'good' to 'adequate' and you've got a deal!

You know, with Palffy's contract structure (3.5, 4.5, 5.5), the Kings would only be on the hook for about 1.7 million for the remainder of the season. And next season? If you subtract what JR is making (5ish), that leaves PLENTY of room for Palffy's salary.

I'm tellin' 'ya, all the Kings need to be a top three team in this league (or at least, this playoff season) are Palffy and Witt. And if the price is Grebs, Push, Hoge, a 1st, Karlsson.......so be it.

Jesus man, put down the pipe. Talk about a huge overpayment.

No, silly! I was just "throwing out names" of guys that we *could* part with. ANY combination of ANY of the above, not ALL of them! LoL!

Besides, as Palffy and Witt play on two different teams, there'd be two trades, anyway.

Oh yeah.....throw Lehoux and Parse into the mix.

I don't think DT would want Ziggy to come back to L.A.

So what? Why would we want to spend that free'd up money on an over the hill player like Palffy. They'll be plenty of younger, better UFA's next off season.

I know going after Palffy is tempting, but ultimatley its the wrong thing to do. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we all like, and miss Ziggy, but his contract over the next two seasons is an overpayment.

Why do I get the feeling that even after Palffy is five-years into his retirement, I'll still be able to come here and read rumors about him coming back to the Kings and trade proposals to facilitate his return?

Palffy on the wing with Army would be killer...

He was the face of the franchise for a wave of Kings fans. There are some fans that when the Kings are mentioned think of Ziggy.
Most think of Gretzky, Luc, or Dionne, but the new wave thinks of Ziggy.
