If we are a budget team a la Nashville, why not? It would save Wirtz Corp half of Olesz salary each year and about a half million of Huet's if they get picked up. If not, they could help now, can't be worse than the garbage they'd replace.

Lure Tony O out of retirement while we're at it.

Wouldn't Huet have to go through waivers coming back to the NHL?

Pretty sad if you think about it. Huet a better option then what we have in nets.

I'm not exactly sure what happens, but if somebody claimed Olesz, the Hawks are on the hook for half his remaining salary? That is probably more than what it would take to buy him out after the season is over. And I'm not sure if his half salary would count against the team's cap.

coldsteel, will you please just drop the "budget team" bs. Seriously. You know that this is not true. Do you really still not grasp the concept that the cap might go down in the near future?? Or the fact that the Hawks are paying a bunch of front-loaded contracts and the actually player salaries are probably significantly higher than the cap number?

capgeek says Hawks have cap payroll of about $59.2m right now.

So, add in a big chunk of Rusty's salary $2.5 - 3m ? and Huet's ~ $5m....and you're up to around $67m in actual player payroll. THEN, add in the fact that guys like Hossa are getting paid around $8m and Keith around $7m when their cap hits are much lower (same goes for Seabs and Montador).....and you get another $8m more than the actual cap. End up probably around $75-76m in actual player payroll.

Yeah.. grossly calculated that the Hawks are spending about $77 mil in real dollars.
$59ish in cap dollars... but the dead salary as well as the frontloaded contracts, Rocky is dishing out pretty huge this yr already.

Huet and Olesz are part of that number, so bringing Olesz up after the season wouldn't effect the bottomline. Cap yes, but not the real dollars already being spent.

And i don't think Huet has to clear waivers since he's on loan and under contract... but i'm not sure. I know any signing of a player from oversees gets put thru waivers.. ala Nabakov, Svatos, and Wellwood of the last couple yrs...
Huet may be a different case because of the loan factor...

Yeah, I don't think it is true but that being said, I can't wait for this team to come within 2M of the cap because if not, Olesz was a wasted opportunity to save money. Huet, him I actually want as starting G, that one is a no brainer.

Olesz would have to go thru re-entry waivers

If claimed by another team the Hawks would be stuck with half his cap hit for rest of his contract

He will never be recalled for that very reason. He will never be a Hawk again

If the trade deadline passes and the Hawks have not acquired a goalie why not call up Huet and see if he passes through waivers?

If he is claimed the Hawks eat half of his cap this year but he's off the books next year regardless. Also I don't see a team picking up Huet for 2.8 million.

Huet might be possible, but think agout his Swiss Team too. They couldn't replace him and have an agreement with the Hawks

Is that a joke?

I know it's not, just your usual ridiculous European wisdom.

The Hawks are the one paying him over 5 million. He's their's.

We need Huet back. He is the most proven NHL goalie in the organization.

We miss you. Please come save our season.

Right back at you. Every word of that post makes sense. The only scenario where it does not is the one where the Hawks spend to within 2M of the cap and that hasn't happened this year. We'll see if it happens next year or the year after, but you get the point.

I stopped reading after "a budget team, a la Nashville". Yet another 'LOL' handed out this morning.

1) Lack of quality players on the market =\= "budget team"

2) is Huet in Europe because his cap hit is too high or because hes an overpayed, washed up goalie that nobody wants?

None of your post makes sense. If we call up anyone from Rockford it should not be Olesz

Olesz has played well in Rockford and Huet is not washed up. He had a brutal season (second half, really, but we know he is very streaky) but he has a much longer and better NHL resume than what he have. Huet will at the very least get a tryout and a legit chance at a roster spot with someone in the NHL next year if he wants it. There are worse guys in the league.

No, Emery has a better NHL resume than Huet.

Emery's NHL resume > Huet's. It's not hard.
