I would love him as a Penguin, but... a trade between the Caps and Pens?

Mike did not look good this season.
This is probably his last year.
Maybe Red Wings will pick him up for depth?

Class act.

Coyotes may need a replacement for a concussed Taylor Pyatt depending how bad his "upper body injury" is. Knuble would seem to be the perfect replacement and possibly an upgrade.

Waivers or some sort of player that another team has waived already this year.

It would be great to have him back on Philly. Good Vet for the 4th line.

Put him on a line with Doan and Langkow. Grumpy old men line.

Knowing Boston and how much they enjoyed their Recchi experiment (as did the fans), i'd be willing to bet the Bruins take a serious effort in Knuble. If a shake up with the lines keeps happening, i could see Seguin skating with looch and krejci, and Knuble sitting on the bergeron marchand line like Recchi did.

I see Detroit, Vancouver, Phoenix or San Jose as a potential destination for him. He'd be a fabulous addition to any of those teams, but would seem to fit perfectly into that Detroit line-up because of his age and makes for the interesting story of returning to the team that drafted him.

he was great on pp and pk when in philly years ago. i'm surprised his production has dropped so much but maybe a change in scenery can help him. i would try him with briere, since they used to play together and briere hasn't really stuck with any linemates recently. if that doesn't work out put him on the 4th line w/ coots, think they could be real good together.

When Brouwer was aquired, it became obvious that Knuble's days in Washington were numbered.

At his age and speed, he can only be useful in the way that Bill Guerin was useful to the Pens during his last NHL days: A decent-sized, 'go to the net' filler guy to put with all-star linemates during the playoffs.

He used to be a fit in Washington, actually. And he might find a spot on their top line again if Hunter chooses to spread around the attack or if Brouwer goes down during the playoffs. Cheers.

Knuble will be a good cheap vet addition to any team. Won't cost much for him.

However, if the Caps (who are still trying to make the playoffs) trade him for some marginal return then they have no incentive to make a trade with an eastern conference team.

I see him going to some western conference team really.

Yeah, I thought of that. I'd like to see him on the Bruins, but they won't be willing to part with anything good for him and it would look mighty bad on the Caps if they played each other in the 1st round and Knuble was rejuvenated with the Bruins and they had little to show for it.

Sharks make sense. As do the Red Wings, but I haven't been up-to-date on how healthy they are and whether they're looking for anything.

When Brouwer was acquired, actually it became obvious that Eric Fehr's days in Washington were numbered. Many of us Caps fans felt that Eric Fehr would eventually be Knuble's replacement on the first line. Injuries and just not having the necessary drive and being physical enough, resulted in Boudreau scratching Fehr. It became apparent to the organization that Fehr was not the answer so they made the trade for Brouwer.

Knuble will be 40 this July. I doubt many believe Knuble will play after this season, but I also doubt even though Knuble is 39 how far off he is from last year and especially the year before. He just does not have the speed to keep up with the game. Love to see the Caps move him, but whoever gets him has to realize that your are getting the 2011/12 version and not the 2009/10 version.

The Capitals would love to make some roster improvements between now and the Feb. 27 NHL trade deadline, but they won’t be trading Mike Knuble to do it.

At least that’s what Capitals general manager George McPhee said Thursday at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

“Mike has never asked for anything,” McPhee said when asked if Knuble had requested a trade. “We haven’t had any conversations, period. He’s a great pro, a great guy and we have no interest in trading him. He hasn’t asked for that and we haven’t talked to him about it.”
McPhee is pretty adamant the Caps aren't trading Knuble. That could change if Knuble formally requests a trade, I think, but that hasn't happened.

Would love for us to pick him up. I feel he would suit well on the top line in the Kunitz/Dupuis role, this being when we're healthy. Small cap hit as well.

Well, I'm sure Washington would love replacing a salary they'll be happy to get rid of at the end of the season with a salary they'll be happy to get rid of at the end of next season. I guess that's why you threw in the 3rd.
