Al Montoya to the Hawks

What would it take? IDC who you're asking for as long as its not for core players.

If the Islanders can sign Nabokov to a extension I wouldn't have a issue with trading Montoya.

Is Olsen or Pirri on the table?

The Isles will keep Montoya long term. Nabakov is your man.

Islanders are in a weird position currently. They are 6 points out of 8th spot(9 behind Florida and 10 behind Ottawa) and I don't see them being sellers.

If the Islanders lose ground between now and the 27th I see them trading Nabakhov, but if they keep in the race they probably will keep both goalies.

In terms of actual market value I am guessing at most a 4th/5th round pick but very unlikely Montoya gets traded(it should be noted he is a UFA this summer) no matter where they stand at the deadline

A 2nd rounder IMO is about the value on Montoya

He has never played a NHL playoff game or played more then 20 games in season and he is pending FA and 26 yrs old

About right. He doesn't have a lot of value in the trade market, which is why I would like to re-sign him and trade Nabokov. Only if we're definitely out of it though, I still think we have a chance to make some noise.

hawks fans don't want to give up olsen for nabokov and he is 7-3 with a 1.52 gaa and a .952 in his last 10. i would suggest this means he is not in play for al montoya.

Pirri, Kruger? Olsen might be an option.

Chicago is full of dmen that won't hit anyone. The top defenseman prospect Chicago has who has the stones to hit someone, and yet I keep seeing Hawk fans wanting to give up on him for a 36 yr old UFA goalie to be. Olsen should be untouchable. Let him develop and be a second hitting dman. Lalonde is the next defenseman prospect that should be traded since he seems to be on the same advancement path as Brian Connelly (never called up, soft offensive dman who plays Chicago's current poor style of stick waving defense)

Who ever thought we'd be living in a world where Al Montoya had trade value...

I seriously believe there's absolutely ZERO interest in Montoya by any team who's serious about the playoffs. He was essentially a cast-off, has had a really good half-season with the Islanders, never played an important game in his life (as a pro).

I cannot fathom anyone actually seeking him for a playoff run. Makes zero sense.

Nabokov, I totally understand. Montoya, no way.

I think you're significantly undervaluing Al Montoya.

In the past 60 games or so, he's proven himself to be a quite formidable goaltender. Recall his pre-injury form to rid yourself of the last 2months where Nabokov has stolen the headlines.

Corey Crawford was also quite the formidable goaltender last year and look at him this year. Montoya has never lived up to the hype from his high draft position. I don't see Stan having any interest in him.

Olsen is terrible skater , His D IQ is questionable and I have never liked him

So that is why I wouldn't mind Hawks moving him

Olsen, like Saad and K Hayes, are the Hawks untouchable prosepcts.

Montoya for 3rd

or

Nabokov for 2nd + Rensfeldt

that's about fair goalie market. Sure you won't like them, but thats it with Goalies. Most of the time, a goalie is worth more to his team than any other team would be willing to offer

Can't see Montoya piquing Chicago's interest, they do need a goalie though so maybe they would enquire about Nabokov.

The Islanders are about to play 6 games in 10 days immediately prior to the trade deadline. If they go 4-2 (or better), I don't think they trade either Nabokov or Montoya. If they go 2-4 (or worse), I think they'll trade Nabokov.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Interesting, and I agree. We need to see how we're doing in the standings before any moves can be made, which means the trade deadline will be the earliest day that they start making trades.
