Ubisoft Confirms Assassin's Creed III
Coming in October.

Quote:
During an earnings call today, Ubisoft revealed that Assassin's Creed III will be released in October.

According to CEO Yves Guillemot, the game will hit stores on October 30th. Guillemot revealed that the game has been in development for three years and that "what we have seen is just fabulous."

Previously, Ubisoft teased that a major Assassin's Creed title would come this year, but this is the first outright confirmation that it's AC III. The game is said to complete the story of Desmond.

While no platforms have been announced, recent Assassin's Creed games have hit Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game is likely headed to Wii U as well, since an Assassin's Creed game was announced for Nintendo's new system during E3.

Still haven't played Revolutions yet, maybe in the summertime. Good to see this one is going to be on a new engine, or I should say "hope", since it's been in development for three years

You mean Revelations.

I have not played Brotherhood and Revelations, that's why I'm surprised that "III" has yet to be released.

They've had a different team of developers working solely on this for three years. It's not "Hurr Durr, let's make Brotherhood 3 and grab as mush as money as we can" like it was with Revelations. And they can't release a game about the end of the world in 2012 in 2013 - that would be silly.

Revelations is the only one in the series to be released on PS3 that I haven't played. I enjoyed all the other games and really felt that each new iteration was an improvement over the previous game but after Brotherhood I was just ready to be done with the side-story stuff and really finish this thing off. Looking forward to 3, so many possibilities.

I'm glad that there's a bit of developmental disconnect between III and the last 2 games. I loved what Brotherhood added to II, but I thought that Revelations was an odd mixture of stagnation and a step in the wrong direction, and I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as II or Brotherhood (mostly the combat annoyed me, with the weird timing changes to killstreaks and counters. I also felt that the recruit system wasn't developed as well as it could've been, and some of the mini-game sort of stuff like den defence was boring or unnecessary)

Even if they finish off the Desmond story with III, I do hope they continue with the franchise, as there is fertile ground story-wise to keep exploring (at least in the sense of assassins through the ages. Not sure about tying more present-time stuff into it)

Even if ACIII was just a rehash of ACII like Brotherhood/Revelations it would still be a good game.

The fact it isn't is even better.

Any news what the setting is gonna be?

Still hoping for a French Revolution Paris or 18th century London.

While those on the top of lists, the rumors say early colonial America (17-18th centuries).

Can't wait for this one.

I ended up skipping Revelations, the only one in the series I haven't had.

I finally started playing it last week, it's still pretty good. The main story is pretty meh, but the 'master assassin' missions are awesome. As Ezio trains young Assassins, they get two special missions where they need to hunt down a known Templar, and Ezio is there to teach and help them. It's fun to play the other side, the older guy teaching the young guy, after being the young guy learning from old guys in AC2. They've added a few more tricks to Ezio's toolbox, the sandbox aspect really feels good because Ezio has so many ways of dealing with guards or problems.

It's not the big step forward that 2 was to the original (or even Brotherhood was to 2), but it's absolutely not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination.

That could actually be cool, I'd like if they made up some crazy Assassin-Templar story behind the disappearance of Roanoke Colony. You could also have a thing where the Templars have corrupted a native tribe to their philosophy, while the Assassins are trying to ally with a different one.

Yes !!

It's going to be hard for them to top a character as good as Ezio Auditore (possibly the best and most well developped video game character since Solid Snake/Big Boss) but i do think they can do it. The writing has been great since AC2 imho and the story and its characters are one of the main reason why i love these games. Absolutely looking forward to AC3.

Oh my god that would be awesome, even though that was a bit earlier.

I played the first one and liked it somewhat, but I found it extremely repetitive.

Can someone give me an idea on how much has changed since the first Assassins Creed? Are the missions more diverse? Has it become more steal-like ie: MGS or Hitman-esque?

The difference between 1 and 2 was absolutely incredible. Probably one of the best examples from this past generation of a developer just improving almost upon everything for a direct sequel.
