Flyers to raise ticket prices for 2012-13 season

Quote:
With the NHL playoffs around the corner, the Flyers’ buzz is growing. The trade deadline is looming and everyone wants the latest scoop.

But season-ticket holders aren’t happy. Not only have the Flyers won only two of their last eight home games, but next year it will be more expensive to watch them.

Season-ticket holders were informed that prices will go up next season — $2 in the upper level, $3, $4 or $7 in the lower level. The average ticket price increased by $6 for the 2011-12 season, which had been the Flyers’ first ticket hike in five years.

“I was expecting an increase last year; I was not expecting it to be that large,” said Scott Pringle, 27, of Berkeley Heights, N.J. who is in his fourth season as a season ticket holder. “I’m really surprised and shocked that there’s another increase. I was paying $36 two years ago and now it’s gonna be $45 next season.”

If this was the Eagles, fans would be calling for blood! Why are most Flyers Fans so trained to nod and accept that everything is ok and this is just! This team recently lost a top 10 defensemen to injury and is sinking in the standings like a weight in water! This is unacceptable Ed Synder! Unacceptable!

Because the eagles get enough money from the TV contract to cover their cap, they are also notorious for not spending up to the cap. Flyers fans know that most of the flyers revenue still comes from tickets, they spend all that they can and then some in the case of burying mistakes in the minors. Snider used to say with a payroll of 60 mil, they needed to get at least the first round to make money.

I usually don't care about grammar but Ed Synder gave me a chuckle haha. The other guy covered it but when you live in a major sports city you can get away with it. Like the Phillies raising prices every season also, as long as the team is competitive people will just accept it.

I guess they have some multi-million dollar mistakes to fix. There's that sports complex on the site of the Spectrum, too.

The things that gets me though, is last March when they announced the price raise (for the 2011-12 season) the prices weren't outrageous as they were when they went on sale in September.

Quote:
“We are rescaling the arena so that our revenues are more in line with other top teams in the National Hockey League,” said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. “This rescaling still allows us the opportunity to provide affordable pricing options for our fans.”
LMAO at the bolded part

The thing is the Flyers were spending more on payroll prior to the lockout with tickets being cheaper.

Last year they raised my seats 23.5% and I screamed to high Heaven -- I was called a whiner, BTW haha -- So now we are hit with a mere 3.2% and I don't feel so bad... at least they listened and upped the entire Mezzanine the same amount this time,as I read it.

((The joke's on them though... since last time they raised my seats so damn much higher than almost all the others in the Mezzanine, our 2012-13 increase was at a lower percentage than almost all of the others ))

At last season's Flyers Town Meeting we *****ed to Luukko and his guys and when I voiced my displeasure he started to say, "In Detroit and Chicago they charge" at which I interrupted and said, "We don't go to their games, we go to Flyers games and I have been for over Forty Years!!!" He dropped that thought and I got a huge response from the others in our group... many of whom were in the high percentage increase seats.

Sadly as we were walking out the President of the Flyers Fan Club said, "We all complain but we all come back each year like lemmings"... So true; drop our seats and we end up in the last row of the Mezzanine end section and our seats are snapped up in a millisecond... and they know it too.

I have to wonder about their numbers... they go by the week averages and somehow get drastically different numbers from one point to another... This was their numbers going into the 2011-12 season, see how the prices vary (Flyers $89.62 vs $104.86 ... Vancouver #1 vs #4 and almost $100 difference... etc.):

Quote

With the 2011-12 NHL season a few short months away and no big hockey news to speak of, we decided to look at our NHL ticket price leader board, which ranks the top average ticket prices over the past week. The Vancouver Canucks lead the way so far:
1.Vancouver Canucks – $266.70
2.Toronto Maple Leafs – $227.89
3.Montreal Canadiens – $170.92
4.Chicago Blackhawks – $168.36
5.Calgary Flames - $159.34
6.Pittsburgh Penguins – $144.75
7.Boston Bruins – $138.08
8.San Jose Sharks – $125.14
9.Edmonton Oilers - $110.56
10.New York Rangers – $105.75
11.Philadelphia Flyers – $104.86

End Quote

EDIT: I think I have the answer... These are from SeatGeek who broker seats and I believe they represent the average they sold them for in that week... Hardly a true representation of what the Organizations are selling them for... They may be on average the low end seats in one city and top end in another... and for hot in demand games for some and bad draws for others.

I honestly don't know how "regular" people afford to go to games regularly. I've got a good job and am obviously as big of a fan as you can find, and still I can't justify going to more than a couple games a year

if i didn't split the cost of the tickets up with my friends and family, i wouldn't be able to afford it either.
