Kreider not planning on signing? (Speculative Only)

Not to cause panic here, but I have now read a couple if things intimating that Kreider may not be completely enamoured with New York...

Has anyone else heard this? I went to BC and even I am anxious to get him out of there after this year (and hopefully another NCAA championship.)

I think the NYR brass is more than a little frustrated at this point.

If there is an truth to this, as I read earlier, they'd be smart to trade him sooner than later...

Mmmm can't imagine any hockey player not enamored with what's going on in NY right now. Those reports are likely bs and if he's not into this team, then we don't want him... is he a *****

where have you heard that?

Kreider went out of his way to appear on MSG, he spent his own money to train with the team for a week during the offseason.

i dont buy this 1 iota.

Looking at a couple of his interviews, it appears that he always has that serious demeanor tone. Doesn't mean he isn't happy about becoming NYR.

Yeah, my first thought as well. I think it will all sort itself out and he will sign. He took full summer classes, he showed up at a Rangers team skate paying his own way. That doesn't seem like he wouldn't want to sign here.

This is totally unfounded. I think because of the fact he grew up in Boxford, Mass and he's played virtually all of his hockey in Mass people would naturally think he'd be opposed to NY but that just isn't the case. Also if you have seen him interviewed as much as I have you'd notice he's demeanor for every interview is pretty much the same.

Yeah, and remember that "article" about Hagelin possibly signing with detroit. There was no truth to it at all, it was just complete speculation to generate interest because Hagelin played at Michigan.

Even if Kreider wanted to sign somewhere else, he'd have to wait until August 15th, 2013. He didn't take summer classes just so he can sit out a year and wait to sign with someone else.

This should be the tipping scale for everyone.

Kreider spend his own money and brought his own equipment to do on ice training with the Rangers this past summer.

That shows dedication.

Kreider skating with the Rangers players in early September

He spoke to Jim Cerny about the Rangers

Quote:
I hope I get to the NHL and play with these guys sooner rather than later. Id really like to be at this level. Its something you dream about as a kid. But right now I want them to know my commitment is there.

I just want to win games, said Kreider. If I focus on that, everything else will fall into place. My only goal is to play at a level that will help us win games.

Kreider is always measured in his words.

I heard he was pretty pissed when we shutout the Bruins the other night. It was hard to tell in the interview, but his undershirt was actually a Bruins t-shirt.

When Sam Rosen was discussing Chris Kreider on Tuesday,he said Kreider is expected to leave school after this season. Gordie Clark said Kreider will turn pro after this season. He made those comments during a MSG broadcast at Traverse City. Kreider is taking some crazy class this semester which is required for him to graduate.

He was also wearing an invisible Bruins hat that was made invisible by Harry Potter's mini-invisibility cloak.

Just to clarify, RB, how long do we have his rights if he graduates at the end of this semester as expected? Do we have to sign him right away or do we have a full year? Also, is it something that might change under a new CBA or would it be grandfathered in if he graduated while the current one is still in effect? Lastly, if there's a lockout, could we potentially lose his rights during the delay?

Any idea on any of the above?

Current CBA rules. August 15,2013. It's the August 15 after his class graduates.

Article 8 of the CBA

(
Quote:
c) College Players.
(i) If a Player drafted at age 18 or 19 is a bona fide college student at
the time of his selection in the Entry Draft, or becomes a bona fide
college student prior to the first June 1 following his selection in
the Entry Draft, and remains a bona fide college student through
the graduation of his college class, his drafting Club shall retain the
exclusive right of negotiation for his services through and
including the August 15 following the graduation of his college
class
. The Club need not make a Bona Fide Offer to such Player to
retain such rights.
His class graduates in 2013.

The CBA expires on 9/15/12. Why would the rules become less restrictive?

In fact, the NHL might push for longer entry level contracts. Instead of 3 years being the max, they might want 4 or 5 years. Change the bonus structure.

Thanks, RB. That's what I thought.

BTW, Inferno raises not 1, but 2 good points above. Not only is it a really good sign that he paid his way to train with the team last summer, but also:

Why on earth would he agree to even do the interview in the first place if his secret plan was to wait out the signing period and go elsewhere?

A lot of universities have something like that now. The good part is it isn't exactly a back breaker.

We heard the same speculation about whether or not McDonagh would stay 4 and then sign elsewhere. It aint happening. Maybe he is a Bruins fan. but at the end of the day money talks and he doesn't want to pull a move that will hurt his career. He can join the Bruins at age 27 if he wants.
