Nah, Bolland is producing more with less and is locked up one year longer than Roy at a better cap hit. I wouldn't trade them straight up so in my eyes it is Gaustad for Beach + 2nd/3rd which is a no go from me.

Really? I mean you make a valid point about the contracts, but it's only a difference of about 0.75M. And yes, Bolland has about the same numbers as Roy this season, but Roy becomes the Blackhawks number 2 center, allows Kane and Sharp to stay on the wings, and Bolland has NEVER... scored 20 goals in a season (although he looks like he will this year), reached 30 assists in a season, averaged over .65ppg in a season, and has only once played over 65 games (although this looks to be his second season). This is his 5th pro season. Meanwhile, Derek Roy, in 7 NHL seasons has... scored over 20 goals 4 times, over 40 assists 4 times, never averaged under .65ppg (although he will for the 1st time this season barring a scoring barrage over the last 25 or so games) and has played less than 70 games only once in his career.

Dave Bolland:

Yr Team Lea GP G A Pts +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG Shots PtsPG
2011-12 Chicago NHL 53 16 12 28 -8 35 6 3 1 80 0.53
2010-11 Chicago NHL 61 15 22 37 11 34 4 0 1 102 0.61
2009-10 Chicago NHL 39 6 10 16 5 28 1 0 0 52 0.41
2008-09 Chicago NHL 81 19 28 47 19 52 2 2 4 111 0.58
2007-08 Chicago NHL 39 4 13 17 6 28 0 0 0 49 0.44 Total NHL 274 60 85 145 32 177 13 5 6 395 0.53

Derek Roy:

Yr Team Lea GP G A Pts +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG Shots PtsPG
2011-12 Buffalo NHL 54 11 16 27 -10 42 2 0 0 120 0.50
2010-11 Buffalo NHL 35 10 25 35 -1 16 2 0 1 89 1.00
2009-10 Buffalo NHL 80 26 43 69 9 48 10 1 6 215 0.86
2008-09 Buffalo NHL 82 28 42 70 -5 38 9 1 9 221 0.85
Canada WC 9 4 4 8 - 4 - - - - 0.89
2007-08 Buffalo NHL 78 32 49 81 13 46 6 3 4 218 1.04
Canada WC 9 5 5 10 - 6 - - - - 1.11
2006-07 Buffalo NHL 75 21 42 63 37 60 6 1 3 130 0.84
2005-06 Buffalo NHL 70 18 28 46 1 57 5 1 1 151 0.66
Total NHL 523 155 255 410 36 319 41 7 28 1215 0.78

Despite this, I believe Roy is in need of a change of scenery, and would benefit from being a 2nd line guy in Chicago, as would the Blackhawks. They'd finally have that 2nd line center who can form a nice 1-2 combo with Toews, and paired with at least one of Kane, Hossa, or Sharp could draw some matchups away from Toews.

The Gaustad, Beach and pick part doesn't even worry me that much, but I feel that this shows that Roy is worth Bolland + a mid-range prospect.

I'm just saying what I would do. Bolland is 25, he hasn't even peaked yet and has been hit by injuries. He has played with crap except the cup year and he always is better during the playoffs. He is signed for one more year as well which is important. He is versatile as well as I feel he could be a #2 C, but then also can be a shut down guy. He is also more physical than Roy which is something the Hawks need right now, grit. That's why I wouldn't do that trade straight up.

Derek Roy is having a down year, therefore he should be valued as a 50-60 point center, and we should completely disregard his success over the last 5 years being a 70 point center.

Bolland is locked up for one more year, which IS VERY IMPORTANT. Also for a little less. He also is a fan favorite and gives this team grit which everyone knows the Hawks lack. He has been amazing in the playoffs as well which is something you can't say about Roy. Many other factors other than points are my reasoning.

I guess if you have a difference in opinions on these boards you get met with snarky sarcastic comments.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be a jack***, I was just trying to describe my point of view.

But, hypothetically, if at the deadline, this deal was made, what would you say about it on the boards? Would you say it was a horrible deal, a deal that's fair but you didn't like, or do you think you'd talk yourself into how it makes your team better (as a lot of fans seem to do immediately after a deal happens)? I'm just curious and really am not trying to be a prik.

My post has nothing to do with Bolland. People keep saying that "X Player" has as many points as Roy this year and completely ignore the fact that Roy has averaged 70 points over the last five seasons, other than last year as he had 35 points in 35 games.

The Sabres offense has been anemic all year, it's no wonder Roy's point totals are so low. GM's don't value players completely off their last 50 games, I don't understand why people on here do it.

I don't think the Gaustad for a 2nd/3rd part was a problem, don't think it'd be smart for buffalo to move Roy right now though

Buffalo says HELL no.

Also Judrix, Roy is ALSO sigtned through next year....not a FA. Bollands contract doesn't change that roy is MUCH better then him.
