Who is actually going to be selling this deadline?

Carolina is 15th in the east but is 5-1-4 in the last 10 and is only 9 points out of a playoff spot. The "parity" in the east is unreal.

Even Anaheim is making a run and is only 6 points out despite being in 13th.

Outside of CLB and EDM... what other teams will be looking to sell with the races being this close?

I thought Carolina was going to sell, but JR thinks differently. Gleason re-signed and a (now injured) Ruutu extension is likely. Pretty much all we have to sell is Allen and Spacek, which will return us pretty much nothing.

Unless something crazy happens (meaning we go undefeated until the deadline) the Lightning will be sellers.

Not trying to incite a riot but it's "parity" not "parody". Although the thought of the canes making the playoffs is kinda funny

9 points is a gigantic chasm to overcome in today's NHL, especially when you're that far down the standings.

Columbus, Edmonton, and Carolina will be the hard-sellers

Tampa, Buffalo, and maybe Anaheim will be sellers but won't look to move out many players with big term left and look to retool on the fly for next season.

God I hope the Caps are. If we put Semin, Wideman, and Vokoun on the market, we're selling the best forward, defenseman, and goalie on the market. I have no interest in watching those guys walk for nothing after our next playoff burnout. Would be the perfect opportunity to do a mini retool which we desperately need, if our GM had the balls to cut the cord on this season.

I don't see a lot of movement before the trade deadline and a new CBA coming up. Looks more like teams are locking up their best FA's and pretty much leaving players that have undesirable contract demands available...very slim pickings.

Caps have a 4 game road trip coming up. If they don't win at least 2, we SHOULD be sellers. The more likely scenario though is that GMGM and Leonsis will cry to the media about how injuries ruined the season. The only activity I see from the caps is shipping Knuble because of his comments.

Anything more than that would probably be some panic buys from GMGM trying to save his job, but we all know Ted doesn't have the sack to fire him at this point.

I have a feeling if they played the Bruins all season, they'd have a pretty good chance.

We really have no one to sell though, nobody is going to want Patrick Dwyer, Chad LaRose, Tim Brent, Anthony Stewart or Derek Joslin. Unless someone knocks JR's socks off on a offer for Joni Pitkanen, the only deals out of Carolina you'll likely see are Jaro Spacek and Bryan Allen.

I'd break it down like....

Not going to be traded:
Eric Staal, Cam Ward, Jeff Skinner, Brandon Sutter, Justin Faulk, Tim Gleason

Not going anywhere, but could probably be had for the right price:
Joni Pitkanen, Jussi Jokinen, Jamie McBain, Jay Harrison, Chad LaRose, Jiri Tlusty

Don't count on it:
Tuomo Ruutu

Take him:
Chad LaRose, Derek Joslin

Available:
Bryan Allen (UFA), Jaroslav Spacek (UFA), Anthony Stewart

Who knows?
Patrick Dwyer, Tim Brent, Zach Boychuk, Jerome Samson, Justin Peters (if Boucher was healthy, he'd probably get dealt)

It'll all come down to what the standings look like on the Sunday before the deadline but this year looks a little weird as the teams who are the most likely sellers haven't got all that much to sell.

CBJ will of course trade Nash and Carter but not necessarily at the deadline. It'll take a lot to get either and contending teams will maybe think it's too much to give up now.

EDM are a young team and won't deal their young assets. Hemsky will be dealt but apart from that have they really got a lot to sell?

CAR was dealt with above rather nicely.

ANA still somewhat in the running and won't go into rebuild mode anyway so their stars are staying put

Apart from that it's wide open but if the NYI are sellers their most priced assets will be Nabokov (has an NMC) and Parenteau.

We have six games the wild that is between now and the deadline... If we cant win atleast 4 of them being vs wpg, stl, bos, fla, dal and sj then we might as well be sellers at this yrs deadline

Hopefully Buffalo will be and everyone should be available for the right price, IMO.
Realistically available: Brad Boyes, Paul Gaustad, Jordan Leopold, Derek Roy, Drew Stafford

Edmonton has a few pieces that they would not mind moving: Habibulin, Barker, Whitney (for the right price), Peckham, Hemsky, Smyth (has to approve the trade).

I can see there being a market for Smyth but RFAs and signed players rarely get moved at the deadline. Unless he plans on resigning in EDM Smyth must really want a final shot at the cup.

Your talking Canes not Nucks...

I think Buffalo will be sellers but will be also looking to retool for next year so I wouldn't be surprised if they look to bring in some talent at the same time.
