Kubina is a rental, he's not that valuable. Plus they need a goalie and have experience with Niitty. If not, we could send them Sexsmith, but I dunno, I just get the feeling it's Niitty.
This trade is so obvious.
Tampa Gets
Rick Nash
San Jose Gets
Vincent Lecalvier
Columbus gets
Pavel Kubina
Jason Demers
TB-1st
SJ - 2nd
Also he's being held out in a game against us. I wouldn't expect a trade to finalize until after the game if it involves us, and part of the trade condition would be he doesn't play against us.
I heard on the radio today that he's being scratched indefinitely until they can find someone to take him.
Rumour has it he is close to being traded. Kubina seems to me like a player that DW would love to get. He is big, experienced, has a Cup Ring and has a good history with Boyle. And we have the cap space to do it.
Not sure how desperate Tampa Bay is to move him, but perhaps he could be had for a mid-late round draft pick.
With all due respect, why would DW want him when we have 8D, most of which are better players. He is in no way the solution to the Sharks needs to win a Cup.
We have several other needs - a PK expert that can be a 2nd/3rd liner and maybe a top 6 havlat repalcement

Again, why do we need a PK expert? I don't see that as a need at all anymore.
Also he's clearly better than White/Vandermeer/Demers currently. Maybe better than Murray.
I'm not really suggesting a PK expert, must be a good player that also excels at the PK.
Cmon dude, really?
Our PK is one of the best in the league right now. We've been above an 85% kill rate since the new PK strategy. As I said at the time, ti was a strategy problem not a personnel problem and Todd fixed it.
Even if we were #1 in Kill percentage the rest of the season, we wouldn't improve over 20th, it's just math. The PK is not only fine, it's excellent.

Didn't you say it was the assistant coach and he needed to be fired

I would be cool with moving Demers if we get an upgrade on D plus a 2nd/3rd line winger signed next year. He is also exactly what Stevie would want I imagine.
Yes, because it looked like after two seasons they simply didn't know how to fix it. Then they did, happy surprise.
No clue why it took two freaking seasons to fix...
As I said at the time, that decision was being made at a higher level and there had to be a reason for it. A decision that fundamental is not being made by assistants.
My guess is that they thought it was a better long term solution against the tougher competition if they could get it to work. This year they wanted to give the team and it's new personal time to make it work. They failed and bailed on it, maybe a little later than they should have, but they've righted the ship and it hasn't cost us much in terms of the standings.

The fix was moving Marleau back up. Moving JT, Mitchell and Zeus down. And, going with a vanilla PK according to their own words (paraphrased).
Do you have a link or was it discussed during a game? I missed it, so I would be interested in reading it if it's available.
I don't recall whether it was Pollak or Remenda during a game. The movement of player hierarchy was apparent as was the PK style. They confirmed what was obvious about the style only.
I think that Demers would absolutely be of interest to Yzerman. He'd be a very good partner long-term to either Hedman or Brewer, who are the only D worth anything on that team.
Demers + 2nd for Kubina + Purcell/Downie? Kubina isn't worth all that much.

exactly, I think it's pretty fair but I personally think Stalock + a mid pick or Wingels would be better for both parties.
This draft is supposed to have some really good players going into the 2nd, Tampa doesn't have any goalie security and Stalock and Wingels don't have much of a chance of fitting in long term (though I'd rather give up the pick over Wingels for sure)
And I would MUCH rather prefer to see Purcell over Downie, Downie is basically Ben Eager with alot more skill
