For a second I was under the impression that he was a soon to be UFA – In my mind, I had this weird notion that 25+ years old players making less than league average were automatic UFA.

GAWD I like those kinds of mistakes!

Emelin is a soon to be RFA... and a soon to be regular top 4 D in this league. I hope he does not leave for the KHL after this season: please Molson... no low balling game with that tank!

Emelin has underrated passing skills and based on his performance during the WJC (he did open my eyes) and his stats from his last season in the KHL, he has some untapped offensive potential that we still haven't seen in the NHL.

He is a future top 4 in the NHL imo.

If someday Markov can come back and play even at 70% of what he was while staying healthy if we put those two together it would simply be the best russian pairing in the history of the nhl in terms of completeness.

That can guy is a train has good some pretty decent hands and a good first pass. He is getting it slowly but surely and he can progress even more.

Emelin was very implicated in the physical department, destroyed Thornton (the hit was from behind but I think Shawn turned his back). Later in the game, Thornton hit him from behind when the puck wasn't really close. And Emelin was angry:

He was solid defensively, good under pressure, no big mistakes. A good game, IMO. It was a very very physical game. I think Montréal dominated the physical part but Boston won the game.

Emelin gives a whole new meaning to the word "tank". The guy hits like a freight train and by and large they seem to be clean hits, but HARD HITS. Also, I find he's one very cool customer, never seems to get rattled and makes good outlet passes. Very few mistakes, but he's still learning and will get even better imo.

I don't get why he doesn't get any PP time, he can't be any worse than that plug Campoli.

A combination of trying to showcase campoli and trying to keep emelin's contract demands lower

Just be happy he's getting good icetime at this point. He wasn't even playing earlier in the season. I suspect when the Habs are officially eliminated they might give him a shot.

When the Bruins had a delayed penalty last night he was looking pretty good on the point. Maybe it's because he doesn't follow the Habs PP system where the point man must pass point to point 10+ times, remain stagnant, and try the same predictable plays again and again.

The thing I like about him offensively is he's actually creative, he tries pinching backdoor like Markov always would and it gives other team's penalty killers something else to think about. Our powerplay is soo obvious with Kaberle always passing, Subban always shooting and no movement etc. He's also got a good shot and good vision, hopefully near the end of the year he gets at least some PP time.

Subban's fake slap shot is also a key part of our PP. We need to use that move a few times every PP to give PKers a bit of fear that there'll be a hard shot coming at them.

Sorry if i was overexcited about a Emelin Markov pair i didn't think straight but that's right.

Still it would be a awesome pair to watch together.

That sentence itself has a bit of russian feel to it.

This guy has been quite a revelation. I love his play, always come to play every game. A rugged defenseman we have been looking for since Komisarek lost his game after the Lucic fight. He is going to be good for us for many years! Reminds me a lot of Volchenkov when he was with the Sens. Rock on Emelin!!

He's not there yet... maybe a 2-3 years kind a deal at 2,25-2,5mil a year.

Offensively, he'll be a 25-30 points scorer. He's settling defensively trying to get his bearings that still need works... and then, he'll get loose offensively. He has good vision and passing skills, much better than Gorges. The guy will be a great Top 4 defenceman.

I heard Emelin is such a badass that after he hits someone he dates their sister, then cheats on her.

This kid is a beast and I very much want him to remain here.

Might be wrong but I think he can be a UFA after next season. Do you sign him to a year and see how he progresses at a 5th-6th D price or do you try signing him to 4-5 years at what Im guessing would have to be top 4 money, say $16.5M over 5 ? Id lock him up.
