COACH & PLAYER QUOTES

They have played great in the last two games for us and given us a lot of spunk and given us kind of a new look and scored two huge goals. (on the third period…) There wasn’t any panic. We relaxed and we regrouped. Darryl, on the bench, said, `Relax, we’re still in good shape.’ We got goals from a couple of the kids tonight, getting their first goals, and that gives us a lot of excitement too. So I’m extremely happy that we won the game, even though we didn’t have as much energy as in previous games. (on winning a game against a close division rival…) We’ve obviously struggled to score goals this year, so four goals is quite an accomplishment. [smiles] Getting a win in a four-point game, a division game, is important, especially when Dallas is right behind us and teams above us are just above us. That’s the way it is every game. Everything just seems so important. There’s always another game, and there’s another one right in front of us (against Phoenix), which will be another big game. (on coming back after giving up the third-period lead…) I’m not going to toot our horns that much. Yes, we found a way to win a game where we weren’t at our best. That’s certainly what teams need to do, especially on the last leg of the road trip when we were playing back-to-back games. We’re happy that, even after we got that third goal, we didn’t sit back."

Tonight, we knew if we worked hard, good things would happen, and me and Nolly [Jordan Nolan] benefitted from a couple nice plays and it worked out for us. For sure. I just got my feet wet. I wasn’t really mentally prepared last year, and focused in those six games. I can tell you that right now. But coming in, it took me about a period. I think Nolly would agree with that. We were able to feel it out, and then it’s just a matter of working hard and doing the things that we can do well as a line. (on rallying after giving up the third-period lead…) Obviously you don’t want to give up leads in this league, but to stay composed is a huge part of the game. When you play games, scenarios are going to change throughout the night. It’s an even game and there is still a chance to win, so we just had to stay with that kind of attitude."

So, to come in and be able to play two games with him in this league, we have to bury those chances when he’s setting us up. (on his first two NHL games…) We [Nolan and Dwight King] were a little nervous, coming in for our first game. I know I was. After that first period, you kind of get into it. You feel the rush of the game. We’re just trying to work hard to stay up here. (on being accustomed to playing games on back-to-back nights, after playing in the AHL…) No, it’s not too bad, but the pace of the game is a little higher up here. The guys are stronger. We were just trying to play our best hockey and keep the coaching staff happy and stay in the lineup."

I’m still far away from playing a game, but at least I’m on the ice and I’m able to work on my skills and get the feeling of the ice, stuff like that. So that’s a good thing. It’s better than just riding the bike. (Just in terms of everyday life situations, how are you doing…) I don’t know right now. There’s a lot of things coming at the same time. I’ve been on the bike, but it was not really hard biking. Right now, I’m on the ice and trying to get into game shape. A lot of things come into factor. When I get back in game shape and all that, then we’ll be able to see what the difference is, in terms of how I feel. I’m still not 100 percent, but I see some improvement and that’s a good thing. (Any time you get a hit like that, it’s bad, but did you think, instantly, that something was really wrong there…) It’s hard to know. I don’t think the hit was that bad. Maybe you just get hit in the wrong place. Sometimes it doesn’t take much. Sometimes maybe it’s not just that hit. It might be all the hits you took during the season, and you didn’t get effected by them but then that one (causes it). I didn’t really look back at the tape, so I don’t know, but I just know that I was not OK after. Who knows? Maybe it’s all the hits that you take early in the season, and then that one just takes you over. I’m not a doctor, and even the doctor doesn’t know. And maybe it was just that one hit, at the right place. So, I’m working on it. I’ve got some exercises to do, from the doctor, for my balance and stuff like that. I’m able to work on that, and slowly I’m starting to see some improvements, so that’s a good thing. (Because it’s not just about hockey, it’s about living your life, right…) I’ll be 32 years old at the end of this month, and I’ve got two kids. I remember my first one in the league, and you don’t think about that stuff. You just want to get back on the ice. You don’t think too much about your future. Who knows, on those others [concussions] maybe I should have taken more time. I was trying to get back as soon as possible. Not that I’m not trying to do that now. I’m trying to get back as soon as possible, but at 100 percent. The other ones, maybe I was just coming back when I was good enough to go back and play. Who knows? When we find out those answers, I’ll be way gone, but at least you start to see some improvement from the doctors’ standpoint, and the way they treat those injuries now. The doctors and the training staff here, they do a really good job. I’m really impressed by that. But you do think about your future, and that’s why when I come back now — maybe because I’m older, and when you get older you get smarter — I’ll come back at 100 percent. That’s going to be for sure this time."

It’s a tough league, a tough league to score in, a tough league to win in. The most important part of what you see is playing with a lead. Scoring the first goal is way more important than anything else, the way this league is now. (on finishing the trip with a win…) We played really well. The only time I had any issue was the first game of the trip, the first period against St. Louis. Other than that, I thought we played really well. You’ve kind of always got to separate it. We’ve struggled to score. That’s not a secret now. It’s not about our work or compete, I know that. Our kids play hard."

- UPCOMING SCHEDULE -

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Big game! I hope that Nolan and King bring the same intensity after the rush of scoring their first goals and playing in his first game (Nolan).

Seriously bummed I won't be able to catch this game tonight. I always seem to be able to watch our brutal boring losses to east coast teams and miss the exciting big games. GKG.

Games against the Coyotes aren't exactly known for their excitement.

Big, big game.

Gonna be a tough game for King and Nolan I think. They had little time to really worry about things in their first two games, being back to back and all. They just came in with a go-go attitude and got it done. Much harder now I think, now that they've had a few days to reflect. They might overthink it or worry about what they have to lose.

Hopefully they can keep the same mentality.

Been amped for this one for over a week now. Like others have said, this game is HUGE! Need to come out hard and fast from the get-go, get the cycle going, and establish dominance.

A low stress game for a change...

Kings 5-1.

(if I keep saying that, it has to happen eventually doesn't it?)

It's from a fox sports feature, they did about the kings assistant equipment manager, Denver Wilson. Him and Richie have a couple of pre-game handshakes that they do.

Think they'll show the feature tonight, cos Wilson's dad works for the Coyotes.

Dare I say this is the the most important game thus far? The Kings need to win this one.
