GDT #57: Blues vs. Islanders

Havent seen one yet, and I dont plan on making anything flashy, just wanted to get the discussion going.

Back at home tonight, this is a must win. By the sounds of it Huskins, Arnott and Porter are in tonight, with Cola and Reaves out. Stewart to the 4th line. Elliot in net.

St. Louis

Perron - Backes - Oshie
McDonald - Berglund - Langenbrunner
Sobotka - Arnott - Crombeen
Porter - Nichol - Stewart

Huskins - Pietrangelo
Jackman - Shattenkirk
Russell - Polak

Elliot
Halak

Sadly, I'd rather sit Stewy in favor of Reaves. I barely remember how Huskins looks on the ice, it'll pretty much be his second first impression for me.

Let's win this boys!
Blues 4: Amac, Perron(2,EN), Arnott
NYI: Moulson

I'm optimistic about tonight, despite how sluggish we have looked in recent games.

Blues 5 - Stewart (2), Perron, McDonald & Pietrangelo
Isles 2 - Parenteau & Tavares

Islanders have been playing well of late, can't take them lightly. I expect the Blues to be fired up after a bad loss.

Very interested in seeing how Stewart responds to being put on the fourth line. I'm hoping that his pride will kick in and make him a (positive) factor tonight.

For all the Stewart detractors - let's hope Stewart responds well. It isn't good news that Crombeen is on the third line.

Good to see Arnott back. He really makes the Blues a 3-4 line team. Shooting for the stars tonight...Perron gets the hat trick in a 5-1 stomping.

Strickland quoted Stewart as saying "Best game of the year tonight, I guarantee it".

I have significant doubts it will last the entire 1st period, much less all game (or beyond). They're probably hoping Stewart will throw around his body a bit the first few shifts to "get involved", and then they'll move him up to see if he can carry that over into his play on a higher line.

Personally, I was never much for using tactics like this when I coached, but I don't know Stewart personally so I can't really comment on whether or not this sort of tactic is likely to work with him.

Kind of bold words but Stewart needs to be motivated so I'm looking forward to seeing what he does tonight. Stewart, when on his game, has swagger and confidence. When he's on cold streaks he looks disinterested. And that might be his biggest problem. So I hope he responds well tonight with a big game. And I agree with the above poster. I think Stewart will be back up on the 3rd line and Crombeen on the 4th by the middle of the 1st period....

Also happy to see Arnott and Huskins back in the lineup. They were both solid contributors before their injuries.

I predict that it will be a somewhat low-scoring affair, with the Blues winning 3-1 and Crombeen drops the mitts with Matt Martin. I know it's an out-of-Conference opponent and that the Isles have been playing well lately, but I don't care. We are at home and much better than them. We can't give away 2 games to Columbus and NYI. We have to win this with a tough schedule coming up.

If Stewart does play his best game of the year, hard to see the Blues losing. You can't dismiss the Isles' better play of late (they did this last season too) nor their success against the West nor their 5-1-1 record in 4th-in-6-nights games (which it is for both teams), but I think even if the Isles play well and the Blues come out with a purpose, playing as well as they do in their own building the edge still has to go to the Blues.

Really hope Huskins has a smooth transition back and doesn't take too long to get comfortable.

As far as Stewart goes, if he *doesn't* have his best game of the year, after that promise, the fan reaction will be a firm turning of the page. I'm rooting for him because even though I eventually want them to trade him, his value needs to rebound in a big way for the Blues to get the right return.

Yeah I don't recall much about Huskins either. I think a lot of people will be watching and criticizing Stewart as well. I will miss seeing Reaves too. Looking forward to having Huskins and Arnott back, definitely! That just leaves Dags and Steen, right? Let's go Blues!!

I think the most important thing to get from his quotes coming out recently is that he still has respect for the coaching staff and realizes it's his game that needs changing.

Also Backes and Jackman mentioned that the loss to Columbus was "the worst one of the season", and Oshie said how important it is to bounce back from it.

This team is gonna be fired up, and being at home, I don't think they'll get beat. It's good to see them showing motivation like this. Hitchcock always seems to have us prepared.

I have no problem with putting Stewart on the fourth line to try to spark something, but good lord, I don't want Crombeen anywhere near the third line.

No, Cola's x-rays were negative and he could go but they're sitting him anyway. It's a good excuse to get Huskins back in there. Besides, if Armstrong really is looking into Kubina and that trade would be consummated in the next 24-48 hours (per the timetable Yzerman has asked Kubina for his list of teams), there's no need to risk Cola getting hurt in case he's the salary balance going back.

Regardless of what Jackman and Backes say about the recent loss, that game nowhere even close to the LA 5-0 game, which was one of the worst losses I remember in a long time. That 5-0 game was a straight up disgrace. Losing 2-1 to Columbus because they didn't have any push in the second and third period (they did outplay Columbus in the first) was not even in the same universe as that 5-0 game which was just shameful.
