I like him strictly because of this picture. Seems like the kind of person you want to dine with at Fogo De Chao

I wouldn't go that far just yet. Holmgren has been wanting to "re-tool" the defense and right now, they need at least one more stay at home defender who can become a shut down guy. Schenn has that ability to be a shut down guy.

As well, if Holmgren does land Schenn, he has two very big bargaining chips in Carle and Meszaros. Holmgren can really re-shape the D going into the playoffs if he plays his cards right. Hopefully if Holmgren does land another defensive defenseman, Laviolette and company get the message and they start to tighten up the game plan a bit. It doesn't need a Hitchcock-esque tighten, but it needs to be tighter.

I'm slightly more fond of the one in my avatar.

Grossman is a good pick up for you guys. He's a big dude and knows where to position that large carcass in the defensive zone. I have all but given up on the hope that he will ever be a consistent physical presence but he's still an effective stay at home defenseman regardless. I hope he finds a home on the Flyers and becomes a fixture on your blue line for years to come. Cheers.

Don't like what rounds we gave up, but it sounds like draft picks this year don't have much value and it's not seen as a good draft. Must be a load off of Holmgren's shoulders that he got rid of the 2nd round pick.

I don't hate it, but I'll like it more if he signs a new contract.

Watch how the fans will turn on him within a couple games when they realize he isn't what they thought he would be...

Please send Matt Carle packing next.. one of the worst defenders in the NHL right now ...and I'd still take Hal Gill here as well, I chuckle at the Gill haters... ... the guys great at clearing guys out in front of the crease.. and he's not a pansy Euro at least.

They got Grossman to play with Carle at least for this season, so, Carle isn't going anywhere.

I'd take the guy back in a heartbeat... players don't seem to be listening much to what Laviolette has to say these days.. Goes back to last year.

That's why the second was traded, it was all about closure for Holmgren and leaving that painful part of the past behind.

I'm glad Homer did this, and I'm kind of excited to see him play. I wonder if he will replace Bourdon or Gustafsson, and whether the unlucky defender will stay up as an 8th defenseman or be sent down to the AHL.

Hitchcock should be nowhere near a team like this. He'd stifle Giroux and would overplay one goaltender over another. There's a reason why guys like him only have a short shelf life......

Now I hope Florida allows us to have their 2012 2nd, instead of 2013.

It's a bit more than I would have liked to give up, but he should certainly fill a need. Now I'm just hoping we sign him to a reasonable deal, and then you can call me a fan.

Might as well trade anyone 22 and under, cause they wont play at all. One would need to get ready for a 35+ yr old filled team also.

As we all know by now, the Flyers have been after a left-side defenseman to help fill the gap since losing Chris Pronger to a concussion, and Grossman should be able to do that.

The big Swedish blueliner probably won't be picking up any of the offensive slack that Pronger left behind, mind you. Grossman, 27, has never been a prolific scorer. He had two pro assists with Södertälje SK when the Stars drafted him 56th overall in 2004, and he wasn't a late-bloomer by any stretch: Grossman has scored 7 goals since coming to North America in 2005, 4 of which came with the Iowa Stars of the AHL.

That's fine, though. The Flyers' problem has never been offense. Even without Pronger, they're one of the league's highest-scoring teams. At the back end and on special teams, however, they need the help, and Grossman should be able to provide it.
Quote:
Technically, this is a rental, as Grossman is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, but unless he really disappoints, you have to think the Flyers will consider re-signing him. He's currently making $1.65 million.

But, as rentals go, Grossman came even cheaper than you think. Neither pick the Flyers traded away was originally theirs: the second was acquired from the Los Angeles Kings in the Mike Richards trade and the third-rounder was the return for sending Darroll Powe to Minnesota.
